Nouveau motif de ne point pécher : le but de toute l'œuvre de la rédemption, aussi bien que la parfaite sainteté dont le Rédempteur a donné l'exemple, (verset 3) nous pressent d'avancer dans la sanctification.

- La pensée du Sauveur occupe tellement l'esprit de Jean, qu'il parle de lui sans le nommer. (Lui, celui-là : 1Jean 2.6 ; 3.3,7,16)

- L'expression : a été manifesté, s'applique à la première apparition de Jésus sur la terre, à toute sa vie ici bas. (verset 8) Jean emploie le même terme pour désigner sa seconde venue. (verset 2)

- Les péchés est la leçon de B. A, admise par les éditeurs modernes. Sin., C, majuscules portent, avec le texte reçu : nos péchés.

Jésus a ôté les péchés en les portant, en les expiant sur la croix. (Jean 1.29, 2e note.) Mais il les ôte aussi du cœur et de la vie de ceux qui s'approprient son sacrifice. (verset 6 ; comparez 1Pierre 2.24)

      Esaïe 53

      4 Surely he has borne our sickness, and carried our suffering; yet we considered him plagued, struck by God, and afflicted.
