Salutation
1
Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the chosen ones who are living as foreigners in the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
2
according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, that you may obey Jesus Christ and be sprinkled with his blood: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy became our father again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4
to an incorruptible and undefiled inheritance that doesn't fade away, reserved in Heaven for you,
5
who by the power of God are guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
6
Wherein you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been put to grief in various trials,
7
that the proof of your faith, which is more precious than gold that perishes even though it is tested by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ--
8
whom not having known you love; in whom, though now you don't see him, yet believing, you rejoice greatly with joy unspeakable and full of glory--
9
receiving the result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
10
Concerning this salvation, the prophets sought and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you,
11
searching for who or what kind of time the Spirit of Christ, which was in them, pointed to, when he predicted the sufferings of Christ, and the glories that would follow them.
12
To them it was revealed, that not to themselves, but to you, they ministered these things, which now have been announced to you through those who preached the Good News to you by the Holy Spirit sent out from heaven; which things angels desire to look into.

Therefore prepare your minds for action, be sober and set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ--
14
as children of obedience, not conforming yourselves according to your former lusts as in your ignorance,
15
but just as he who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all of your behavior;
16
because it is written, "You shall be holy; for I am holy."
17
If you call on him as Father, who without respect of persons judges according to each man's work, pass the time of your living as foreigners here in reverent fear:
18
knowing that you were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from the useless way of life handed down from your fathers,
19
but with precious blood, as of a faultless and pure lamb, the blood of Christ;
20
who was foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but was revealed at the end of times for your sake,
21
who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead, and gave him glory; so that your faith and hope might be in God.
22
Seeing you have purified your souls in your obedience to the truth through the Spirit in sincere brotherly affection, love one another from the heart fervently:
23
having been born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, through the word of God, which lives and remains forever.
24
For, "All flesh is like grass, and all of man's glory like the flower in the grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls;
25
but the Lord's word endures forever." This is the word of Good News which was preached to you.

Moi, Pierre, apôtre de Jésus-Christ, j’écris à ceux que Dieu a choisis et qui vivent comme des étrangers dans les provinces du Pont, de la Galatie, de la Cappadoce, de l’Asie et de la Bithynie.

Dieu le Père vous a choisis d’avance comme il l’avait prévu. Il a fait de vous un peuple saint par son Esprit, pour que vous obéissiez à Jésus-Christ et pour que son sang répandu vous rende purs. Que Dieu vous bénisse et vous donne la paix en abondance !
Une espérance vivante

Chantons la louange de Dieu, le Père de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ ! Dans sa grande bonté, il nous a fait naître une deuxième fois en relevant Jésus-Christ de la mort. Nous avons ainsi une espérance qui fait vivre,

et nous pouvons attendre avec joie les biens que Dieu garde pour nous. Il les garde pour vous dans les cieux, là où ils ne peuvent s’abîmer, ni être salis, ni disparaître.
5
Et vous-mêmes, si vous croyez, le Dieu puissant vous garde pour vous sauver. Ce salut, on le connaîtra à la fin des temps.

C’est pourquoi vous êtes remplis de joie, même si toutes sortes de difficultés doivent vous rendre tristes pendant un peu de temps.

Ces difficultés servent à montrer la qualité de votre foi. L’or peut s’abîmer, pourtant on le met dans le feu, pour voir s’il est pur. C’est pareil pour votre foi. Elle est plus précieuse que l’or, mais elle aussi est mise à l’épreuve. Alors, quand Jésus-Christ paraîtra, vous recevrez honneur, louange et gloire, à cause de la qualité de votre foi.

Jésus, vous ne l’avez pas vu, et pourtant vous l’aimez. Vous ne le voyez pas maintenant, et pourtant vous croyez en lui. C’est pourquoi vous êtes remplis d’une très grande joie, une joie si grande qu’on ne peut même pas en parler.

Cette joie, vous l’avez parce que vous êtes sauvés. Voilà la récompense que vous gagnez en croyant en Jésus.

Les prophètes ont fait beaucoup de recherches au sujet de ce salut. Par avance, ils ont parlé du don que vous alliez recevoir.

L’Esprit du Christ était en eux, et il a annoncé par avance les souffrances que le Christ allait supporter et la gloire qui allait suivre. Les prophètes ont cherché à comprendre à quel moment et de quelle façon ces choses allaient arriver.

Voici ce que Dieu leur a appris : le message qu’ils donnaient n’était pas pour eux, mais pour vous. Maintenant, ceux qui annoncent la Bonne Nouvelle vous ont communiqué ce message, avec la puissance de l’Esprit Saint envoyé du ciel. Et ce message, les anges eux-mêmes désirent beaucoup le connaître.

C’est pourquoi, soyez prêts à l’action ! Restez attentifs ! Mettez toute votre espérance dans le don que vous allez recevoir, quand Jésus-Christ paraîtra.

Obéissez à Dieu, ne suivez donc pas les désirs que vous aviez autrefois, avant de connaître le Christ.
15
Dieu vous a appelés et il est saint, alors vous aussi, devenez saints dans toute votre conduite.
16
En effet, les Livres Saints disent : « Soyez saints, parce que moi, je suis saint. »
17
Dans vos prières, vous appelez « Père » celui qui juge chacun selon ce qu’il a fait, sans faire de différence entre les gens. Alors, vivez en respectant Dieu avec confiance, pendant que vous êtes sur la terre.

La façon de vivre que vous avez reçue de vos ancêtres ne menait à rien. Mais vous le savez, Dieu a payé un grand prix pour vous libérer de cette façon de vivre. En effet, il ne l’a pas fait avec des choses qui peuvent s’abîmer, comme l’or ou l’argent.

Mais il vous a libérés avec le sang précieux du Christ, qui est comme un agneau sans défaut et sans tache.
20
Dieu l’a choisi avant la création du monde, et pour votre bien, il l’a fait connaître maintenant, en ces temps qui sont les derniers.
21
C’est par le Christ que vous croyez en Dieu, qui l’a réveillé de la mort et lui a donné la gloire. Voilà pourquoi vous mettez votre foi et votre espérance en Dieu.
22
En obéissant à la vérité, vous êtes devenus purs, pour aimer sincèrement vos frères et vos sœurs chrétiens. Aimez-vous donc les uns les autres, de tout votre cœur.
23
La parole de Dieu vous a fait naître de nouveau. Et cette Parole n’est pas comme une graine qui meurt. Elle est vivante, elle ne meurt pas, elle dure toujours.
24
En effet, les Livres Saints disent : « Tous les êtres humains sont comme l’herbe, et tout ce qui les rend importants est comme la fleur des champs. L’herbe sèche et la fleur tombe,
25
mais la parole du Seigneur dure toujours. » Cette Parole, c’est la Bonne Nouvelle qu’on vous a annoncée.
