Et la montée par laquelle il montait. On traduit souvent : et les holocaustes qu'il offrait. La reine aurait assisté à l'une des cérémonies religieuses qui se faisaient avec une grande solennité, peut-être aux sacrifices du matin et du soir (Exode 29.38 ; Lévitique 6.8). Cependant on ne s'explique pas très bien comment la contemplation des sacrifices aurait provoqué l'admiration de la reine de Séba. Le mot ôla, qui signifie ordinairement holocauste, est pris aussi dans le sens de montée, escalier (Ezéchiel 40.6), et l'on peut traduire ces mots comme nous l'avons fait ; comparez 2Chroniques 9.4. L'escalier en question, mentionné aussi 2Rois 16.18, aurait été un ouvrage d'art particulièrement remarquable.
