World English Bible For it happened, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods; and his heart was not perfect with Yahweh his God, as was the heart of David his father.

Au temps de la vieillesse de Salomon. C'est alors seulement que la direction de sa vie changea complètement. L'énergie de sa conscience et de sa volonté avait de plus en plus faibli.

Son cœur ne fut point tout entier à l'Eternel. Il n'abandonna pas complètement l'Eternel ; il continuait à célébrer dans le temple le culte public (9.25). Mais, à côté de cela, il tolérait et protégeait lui-même à l'occasion les cultes étrangers. Il ne fit pas encore comme plusieurs de ses successeurs, qui abandonnèrent complètement le culte de l'Eternel (16.31-32 ; 22.54).
