S'endormit avec ses pères : voir Genèse 15.15, note.

La cité de David, c'est-à-dire le mont de Sion, autrefois la forteresse des Jébusiens, dont David avait fait sa résidence royale (2Samuel 5.7-9). On conclut de certains indices que le sépulcre de David devait être un caveau creusé sur la pente orientale de la colline de Sion, vis-à-vis du réservoir de Siloé. D'après Actes 2.29, ce tombeau existait encore au temps de Jésus-Christ.
