15 à 22 Les deux colonnes d'airain. De tous les ouvrages exécutés par Hiram celui-ci fut sans doute le plus remarquable et le plus admiré, comme l'indiquent le rang qui lui est assigné, en tête de l'énumération des ornements et du mobilier du temple, et les détails qui nous sont donnés à son sujet. On doit comparer 2Rois 25.12-17 ; 2Chroniques 3.15-17 et Jérémie 52.17-20, pour comprendre le texte de notre chapitre que rendent difficile certaines expressions techniques.

Les deux colonnes : elles sont désignées par l'article comme bien connues. La première avait dix-huit coudées... et un fil... En indiquant la hauteur de l'une et la circonférence de l'autre, l'auteur fait comprendre brièvement la hauteur et la circonférence de toutes les deux. Semblable à un tronc colossal, le fût de chaque colonne s'élevait à la hauteur de dix-huit coudées (9,5 m) sur une circonférence de six mètres environ. Dans 2Chroniques 3.15 il est parlé d'une hauteur de trente-cinq coudées, soit que ce soit la somme de la hauteur des deux colonnes, soit qu'il y ait une faute de chiffre.
