Sur le sommet de la montagne : peut-ĂȘtre le Carmel, qui Ă©tait sans doute pour lui, comme pour ElisĂ©e, le lieu oĂč il aimait Ă  se retirer (2.25).

Élie rĂ©clama le feu cĂ©leste pour consumer les pĂ©cheurs hautains et insolents ; le prophĂšte ne cherchait pas ainsi Ă  se « rassurer », en vĂ©rifiant que sa mission Ă©tait bien dirigĂ©e par l'Éternel, mais il voulait indiquer Ă  quel point la colĂšre cĂ©leste se dressait contre l'impiĂ©tĂ© et le manque de droiture des hommes. Élie exĂ©cuta cet acte sous l'impulsion divine, malgrĂ© le fait que notre Sauveur ne permit pas aux disciples de refaire la mĂȘme chose, Luc 9:54.

La dispensation de l'Esprit et de la GrĂące ne tolĂ©ra absolument pas ce type d'extermination. Élie commit cet acte pour la Gloire de Dieu, pour Sa renommĂ©e. Le Seigneur juge les actes des hommes selon leurs propres rĂšgles, et Son jugement est toujours conforme Ă  la VĂ©ritĂ©.

Le troisiĂšme capitaine s'est humiliĂ©, et se plaça directement sous le couvert de la GrĂące divine et de la pitiĂ© d'Élie. Rien ne peut ĂȘtre obtenu en luttant contre Dieu ; ceux qui apprennent Ă  savoir se soumettre dans les cas difficiles, sans chercher Ă  s'entĂȘter vainement, font preuve de sagesse. Une foi audacieuse a souvent frappĂ© de terreur le cƓur du pĂ©cheur hautain.

Achazia fut tellement abasourdi par les paroles du prophĂšte, qu'il ne chercha nullement Ă  user de violence, vis-Ă -vis de ce dernier.

Qui peut porter atteinte Ă  ceux que Dieu protĂšge ? Les personnes qui pensent pouvoir prospĂ©rer dans le pĂ©chĂ©, sont de vĂ©ritables « Achazia » ; elles ne s'attendent pas Ă  ĂȘtre reprises tĂŽt ou tard par le ciel. Tous ces actes vains nous avertissent qu'il faut rechercher le Seigneur tant qu'il est possible de Le trouver !
