Et il s'en alla de là, et trouva Jonadab, fils de Récab, qui venait à sa rencontre ; et il le salua, et lui dit : Ton coeur est-il droit comme mon coeur l'est à l'égard de ton coeur ? Et Jonadab dit : Il l'est. -S'il l'est, donne-moi ta main. -Et il lui donna sa main, et Jéhu le fit monter auprès de lui dans le char, et dit :
Jéhu part de là et rencontre Yonadab, fils de Rékab, qui vient vers lui. Jéhu le salue et lui demande : « Est-ce que tu es sincère envers moi comme je le suis envers toi ? » Yonadab répond : « Oui. » Jéhu lui dit : « Dans ce cas, serrons-nous la main. » Ils se serrent la main, puis Jéhu le fait monter sur son char.
« Mon cœur est-il droit » ? C'est une question que nous devrions souvent nous poser. J'exerce une profession honnête, j'ai acquis une bonne réputation dans mon entourage... mais, mon cœur est-il réellement droit ? Suis-je sincère avec Dieu ?

Jonadab approuvait la position de Jéhu, au sujet de l'abolition du culte de Baal. Un cœur droit est en paix devant Dieu, et ne vise qu'à être accepté par ce Dernier ; si nous recherchons avant tout, l'approbation des hommes, nous sommes sur une fausse base.

Jéhu avait vraisemblablement l'objectif lointain de purifier le pays. La loi de Dieu était catégorique : ces idolâtres devaient être mis à mort. C'est ainsi que l'idolâtrie fut alors supprimée en Israël, par l'intermédiaire de Jéhu.

Puissions-nous chasser toutes les idoles qui tendent à s'enraciner dans notre cœur !

15 à 30 Premières mesures de Jéhu.

Jonadab, fils de Récab : peut-être le même que celui dont il est parlé Jérémie 35.6,8, qui avait organisé sa famille en une sorte de congrégation à la fois naziréenne et nomade, afin de la mettre à l'abri de la corruption de la vie des villes. En effet, il avait interdit à ses descendants l'usage du vin et leur avait recommandé la vie nomade à perpétuité. On voit par notre passage qu'il était un zélé adorateur de l'Eternel.

Jéhu le fit monter. Par cette marque d'intimité Jéhu veut s'assurer le concours de cet homme considérable et de toute sa tribu.
