World English Bible For through the anger of Yahweh, it happened in Jerusalem and Judah, until he had cast them out from his presence. Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

Ceux qu'il veut perdre, Dieu commence par leur ôter tout bon sens. Il y avait folie, dans un pays dépeuplé, ruiné, à se révolter contre un tel adversaire. De plus, il y avait mauvaise foi (2Chroniques 36.13 ; Ezéchiel 17.13). Mais Sédécias se laissa pousser par les faux prophètes qui ne promettaient que victoires (Jérémie 27.3 ; 38.1 et suivants). Il fit donc alliance avec les rois voisins ; le moment semblait favorable, car Nébucadnetsar était justement en guerre en Elam (Jérémie 49.34 et suivants). Pour mieux cacher son jeu, il envoya une ambassade à Babylone (Jérémie 25.3) et s'y rendit lui-même (Jérémie 51.59). Tout ceci se passait la quatrième année de son règne. Beaucoup de Juifs avaient fui en Egypte et ne demandaient qu'à en revenir pour une dernière lutte ; on attendait leur concours. Sédécias envoya des messagers dans ce pays (Ezéchiel 17.15). Hophra, qui régnait alors, ne devait pas perdre une si bonne occasion de tenter de prendre, sa revanche de Carkémis. Quand tout fut prêt, Sédécias secoua ouvertement le joug de Babylone. C'était la septième ou la huitième année de son règne,car la neuvième vit arriver les Chaldéens sous les murs de Jérusalem (25.1).
