Comparer Apocalypse 9.13-21. Quand la sixiÚme trompette retentit, les quatre anges qui étaient liés sur l'Euphrate furent déliés ; et une armée démoniaque fit invasion et tua le tiers des hommes.

La sixiÚme coupe, versée sur le grand fleuve de l'Euphrate, le dessÚche et livre passage aux rois qui viennent de l'Orient (grec du lever du soleil).

C'est des contrĂ©es situĂ©es au delĂ  de l'Euphrate que venaient autrefois pour IsraĂ«l les envahisseurs redoutĂ©s. Et Ă  l'Ă©poque oĂč l'Apocalypse fut Ă©crite, l'Euphrate Ă©tait la frontiĂšre orientale de l'empire. Cette frontiĂšre Ă©tait sans cesse menacĂ©e des incursions des Parthes.

Beaucoup d'interprĂ©tes pensent que le flĂ©au prĂ©dit est une invasion de ces guerriers redoutĂ©s. (Comparer Apocalypse 17.12,17) Mais la suite du tableau prophĂ©tique (versets 13-16, comparez Apocalypse 19.19) semble indiquer que l'auteur pense Ă  un Ă©vĂ©nement, d'une portĂ©e plus gĂ©nĂ©rale, qu'il met en rapport direct avec la lutte suprĂȘme entre l'AntĂ©christ et l'Église.

Le dessĂšchement de l'Euphrate a pour but de prĂ©parer le chemin aux rois de l'Orient, de leur livrer passage pour qu'ils se rendent Ă  HarmaguĂ©don, comme l'arrĂȘt des flots du Jourdain permit aux IsraĂ©lites d'entrer en Palestine. (JosuĂ© 3.13-17)

Ce que Dieu avait promis Ă  son peuple pour le moment oĂč il reviendrait d'exil, (EsaĂŻe 11.15,16) il l'accomplit, dans la vision, pour les rois de l'Orient. Ceux-ci ne sont pas identiques aux rois de toute la terre ; (verset 14) mais ils sont de leur nombre.

Ceci reprĂ©sente peut-ĂȘtre l’anĂ©antissement du pouvoir turc, et de l'idolĂątrie, ouvrant par cet effet un chemin destinĂ© au retour des Juifs.

Il peut s'agir aussi de Rome, la « Babylone mystique » ; ce nom de Babylone reprĂ©sentant Rome n'est pas non plus citĂ© directement. Quand Rome sera dĂ©truite, son fleuve et son commerce en pĂątiront avec elle. Un chemin sera peut-ĂȘtre ouvert pour que les nations de l'est puissent venir envahir l'Ă©glise de Christ...

Le grand dragon rassemblera alors toutes ses forces, pour tenter de lancer une lutte dĂ©sespĂ©rĂ©e, avant que tout soit perdu. Dieu prĂ©vient de cette grande Ă©preuve, pour engager son peuple Ă  s'y prĂ©parer. Ce seront des temps de grande tentation ; c'est pourquoi Christ, par le biais de Son apĂŽtre, appelle Ses serviteurs Ă  attendre Sa venue soudaine, en les incitant Ă  veiller pour ne pas ĂȘtre amenĂ©s Ă  subir la honte, en tant qu’apostats ou hypocrites.

Bien que les chrétiens aient des interprétations différentes, quant aux temps et aux époques relatifs aux événements futurs, ils sont pourtant unanimes sur le fait que Jésus-Christ, le Seigneur de Gloire, reviendra soudainement pour juger le monde. Pour ceux qui vivent en communion avec Christ, c'est un sujet de joyeuse espérance, chacun désirant que le Maßtre ne tarde pas !
