9 à 12 La fête des Semaines.

Sept semaines. Le 16 Nisan, surlendemain du jour où l'on avait mangé l'agneau pascal, on devait, conformément à Lévitique 23.15, cueillir et apporter au sanctuaire, pour la consacrer solennellement à Dieu, la première gerbe d'épis mûrs. Cette fête était célébrée en grande pompe au temps de Jésus-Christ ; on allait cueillir la gerbe d'orge dans un champ voisin de Jérusalem, et on la rapportait processionnellement dans le temple, après quoi la moisson était officiellement déclarée ouverte par le Sanhédrin.

Au bout de sept semaines, le cinquantième jour, les moissons de l'orge et du blé étant achevées, le peuple célébrait la fête d'actions de grâces nommée fête des Semaines. Le Deutéronome ne manque pas de relever la joie qui doit animer une telle fête, ainsi que la libéralité qui naîtra de cette joie (verset 11). En échange, il ne parle pas de la partie officielle, des sacrifices réglementaires offerts au nom de la nation (Lévitique 23.16-20).
