BARTHÉLÉMY

L'un des douze apôtres.

Il n'est mentionné dans le N.T. que dans les quatre listes des douze, toujours dans le deuxième groupe de quatre (Mt 10:3, Mr 3:18, Lu 6:14, Ac 1:13).

Dans le 4 e évangile, c'est Nathanaël (voir ce mot) qui paraît correspondre à Barthélémy. Barthélémy est moins un nom proprement dit qu'un surnom patronymique dérivant de Bar-Taimai (=fils de Talmaï ; cf. 2Sa 13:37).

D'après la tradition, Barthélémy aurait écrit un évangile, et, après avoir visité les Indes, serait mort à Albanopolis, en Arménie (Jérôme). L'Église catholique le fête le 24 août, jour de la Saint-Barthélémy.

    • Lévitique 4

      1 L’Éternel parla à Moïse et dit :
      2 Parle aux fils d’Israël et dis : Lorsque quelqu’un péchera involontairement contre l’un des commandements de l’Éternel, en commettant un acte illicite :
      3 Si c’est le sacrificateur ayant reçu l’onction qui a péché et qui a rendu par là le peuple coupable, il offrira à l’Éternel, pour le péché qu’il a commis, un jeune taureau sans défaut (en sacrifice) pour le péché.
      4 Il amènera le taureau à l’entrée de la tente de la Rencontre, devant l’Éternel ; et il posera sa main sur la tête du taureau ; il égorgera le taureau devant l’Éternel.
      5 Le sacrificateur ayant reçu l’onction prendra du sang du taureau et l’apportera dans la tente de la Rencontre ;
      6 il trempera son doigt dans le sang et il en fera sept fois l’aspersion devant l’Éternel en face du voile du sanctuaire.
      7 Le sacrificateur mettra du sang sur les cornes de l’autel des parfums aromatiques, qui est devant l’Éternel dans la tente de la Rencontre ; et il répandra tout le sang du taureau sur le socle de l’autel des holocaustes qui est à l’entrée de la tente de la Rencontre.
      8 Il enlèvera toute la graisse du taureau offert pour le péché, la graisse qui couvre les entrailles et toute la graisse qui est sur les entrailles,
      9 les deux rognons et la graisse qui les entoure, qui couvre les flancs, et la membrane qui couvre le foie, qu’il détachera près des rognons.
      10 Comme il les enlève du taureau dans le sacrifice de communion, le sacrificateur les brûlera sur l’autel des holocaustes.
      11 Mais la peau du taureau, toute sa chair, avec sa tête, ses pattes, ses entrailles et ses excréments,
      12 le taureau entier, il l’emportera hors du camp dans un lieu pur où l’on jette les cendres, et il le consumera au feu sur du bois ; c’est sur le tas de cendres qu’il sera consumé.
      13 Si c’est toute la communauté d’Israël qui a péché involontairement sans que l’assemblée s’en aperçoive, en commettant contre l’un des commandements de l’Éternel des actes illicites et en se rendant ainsi coupable,
      14 et lorsqu’on s’apercevra du péché qu’elle a commis, l’assemblée offrira un jeune taureau en sacrifice pour le péché, et on l’amènera devant la tente de la Rencontre.
      15 Les anciens de la communauté poseront leurs mains sur la tête du taureau devant l’Éternel, et l’on égorgera le taureau devant l’Éternel.
      16 Le sacrificateur ayant reçu l’onction apportera du sang du taureau dans la tente de la Rencontre ;
      17 le sacrificateur trempera son doigt dans le sang et il en fera sept fois l’aspersion devant l’Éternel, en face du voile.
      18 Il mettra du sang sur les cornes de l’autel qui est devant l’Éternel dans la tente de la Rencontre ; et il répandra tout le sang sur le socle de l’autel des holocaustes, qui est à l’entrée de la tente de la Rencontre.
      19 Il enlèvera toute la graisse du taureau et la brûlera sur l’autel.
      20 Il fera de ce taureau comme du taureau offert pour le péché ; il fera de même. C’est ainsi que le sacrificateur fera pour eux l’expiation, et il leur sera pardonné.
      21 Il emportera le taureau hors du camp et le consumera comme il a consumé le premier taureau. C’est un sacrifice pour le péché de l’assemblée.
      22 Lorsqu’un prince péchera en commettant involontairement contre l’un des commandements de l’Éternel, son Dieu, des actes illicites et en se rendant ainsi coupable,
      23 s’il s’aperçoit du péché qu’il a commis ; il présentera en oblation un bouc mâle sans défaut.
      24 Il posera sa main sur la tête du bouc, qu’il égorgera dans le lieu où l’on égorge les holocaustes devant l’Éternel. C’est un sacrifice pour le péché.
      25 Le sacrificateur prendra avec son doigt du sang de la victime offerte pour le péché, il en mettra sur les cornes de l’autel des holocaustes et répandra le sang sur le socle de l’autel des holocaustes.
      26 Il brûlera toute la graisse sur l’autel, comme la graisse du sacrifice de communion. C’est ainsi que le sacrificateur fera pour ce prince l’expiation de son péché, et il lui sera pardonné.
      27 Si c’est quelqu’un du peuple qui a péché involontairement en commettant contre l’un des commandements de l’Éternel des actes illicites et en se rendant ainsi coupable,
      28 s’il s’aperçoit du péché qu’il a commis, il présentera en oblation une chèvre, une femelle sans défaut, pour le péché qu’il a commis.
      29 Il posera sa main sur la tête de la victime offerte pour le péché ; il égorgera (la victime offerte pour) le péché à l’endroit des holocaustes.
      30 Le sacrificateur prendra avec son doigt du sang de la victime, il en mettra sur les cornes de l’autel des holocaustes et répandra tout le sang sur le socle de l’autel.
      31 Il détachera toute la graisse, comme on détache la graisse du sacrifice de communion, il la brûlera sur l’autel, et elle sera d’une agréable odeur à l’Éternel. C’est ainsi que le sacrificateur fera pour cet homme l’expiation, et il lui sera pardonné.
      32 S’il présente une brebis en oblation pour le péché, il présentera une femelle sans défaut.
      33 Il posera sa main sur la tête de la victime offerte pour le péché ; il l’égorgera en sacrifice pour le péché dans le lieu où l’on égorge les holocaustes.
      34 Le sacrificateur prendra avec son doigt du sang de la victime pour le péché, il en mettra sur les cornes de l’autel des holocaustes et répandra tout le sang sur le socle de l’autel.
      35 Il détachera toute la graisse, comme on détache la graisse de l’agneau dans le sacrifice de communion, et il la brûlera sur l’autel par-dessus les sacrifices consumés par le feu devant l’Éternel. C’est ainsi que le sacrificateur fera pour cet homme l’expiation du péché qu’il a commis, et il lui sera pardonné.

      Lévitique 24

      1 L’Éternel parla à Moïse et dit :
      2 Ordonne aux Israélites de t’apporter pour le chandelier de l’huile raffinée d’olives pressées, afin d’entretenir les lampes continuellement.
      3 C’est en dehors du voile du Témoignage, dans la tente de la Rencontre qu’Aaron les arrangera (pour qu’elles brûlent) continuellement du soir au matin en présence de l’Éternel. C’est une prescription perpétuelle pour vos descendants.
      4 Il arrangera les lampes sur le chandelier (d’or) pur, (pour qu’elles brûlent) continuellement devant l’Éternel.
      5 Tu prendras de la fleur de farine, et tu en feras douze gâteaux, chaque gâteau sera de deux dixièmes.
      6 Tu les placeras en deux rangées, six par rangée, sur la table (d’or) pur devant l’Éternel.
      7 Tu mettras de l’encens raffiné sur chaque rangée, il sera sur le pain comme mémorial consumé par le feu devant l’Éternel.
      8 Chaque jour de sabbat, on arrangera ces pains devant l’Éternel, continuellement : c’est une alliance perpétuelle de la part des fils d’Israël.
      9 Ils appartiendront à Aaron et à ses fils, ils les mangeront dans un lieu saint, car ce sera pour eux une (offrande) très sainte parmi celles qui sont consumées par le feu devant l’Éternel. C’est une prescription perpétuelle.
      10 Le fils d’une Israélite et d’un Égyptien, venu au milieu des fils d’Israël, sortit, et une querelle éclata dans le camp entre le fils de cette Israélite et un autre Israélite.
      11 Le fils de la femme Israélite blasphéma le Nom (de Dieu) et le maudit. On l’amena à Moïse. Le nom de sa mère était Chelomith, fille de Dibri, de la tribu de Dan.
      12 On le plaça sous bonne garde, jusqu’à ce qu’une déclaration soit faite par la bouche de l’Éternel.
      13 L’Éternel parla à Moïse et dit :
      14 Fais sortir du camp le blasphémateur ; tous ceux qui l’ont entendu poseront leurs mains sur sa tête, et toute la communauté le lapidera.
      15 Tu parleras aux Israélites en ces termes : Quiconque maudira son Dieu portera (le poids de) son péché.
      16 Celui qui blasphémera le nom de l’Éternel sera puni de mort : toute la communauté le lapidera. Qu’il soit immigrant ou autochtone, il mourra, pour avoir blasphémé le Nom (de Dieu).
      17 Celui qui frappera mortellement un être humain sera puni de mort.
      18 Celui qui frappera mortellement un animal le remplacera : vie pour vie.
      19 Si quelqu’un inflige une mutilation à son compatriote, il lui sera fait comme il a fait :
      20 fracture pour fracture, œil pour œil, dent pour dent ; il lui sera infligé la même mutilation qu’il a infligée à l’ (autre) homme.
      21 Celui qui frappera mortellement un animal le remplacera, mais celui qui frappera mortellement un homme sera puni de mort.
      22 Vous aurez le même droit, l’immigrant ou l’autochtone ; car je suis l’Éternel, votre Dieu.
      23 Moïse parla aux Israélites ; ils firent sortir du camp le blasphémateur et le lapidèrent. Les Israélites agirent comme l’Éternel l’avait ordonné à Moïse.

      1 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
      2 "Speak to the children of Israel, saying, 'If anyone sins unintentionally, in any of the things which Yahweh has commanded not to be done, and does any one of them:
      3 if the anointed priest sins so as to bring guilt on the people, then let him offer for his sin, which he has sinned, a young bull without blemish to Yahweh for a sin offering.
      4 He shall bring the bull to the door of the Tent of Meeting before Yahweh; and he shall lay his hand on the head of the bull, and kill the bull before Yahweh.
      5 The anointed priest shall take some of the blood of the bull, and bring it to the Tent of Meeting.
      6 The priest shall dip his finger in the blood, and sprinkle some of the blood seven times before Yahweh, before the veil of the sanctuary.
      7 The priest shall put some of the blood on the horns of the altar of sweet incense before Yahweh, which is in the Tent of Meeting; and he shall pour out all of rest of the blood of the bull at the base of the altar of burnt offering, which is at the door of the Tent of Meeting.
      8 He shall take all the fat of the bull of the sin offering off of it; the fat that covers the innards, and all the fat that is on the innards,
      9 and the two kidneys, and the fat that is on them, which is by the loins, and the cover on the liver, with the kidneys, he shall take away,
      10 as it is taken off of the bull of the sacrifice of peace offerings. The priest shall burn them on the altar of burnt offering.
      11 The bull's skin, all its flesh, with its head, and with its legs, its innards, and its dung,
      12 even the whole bull shall he carry forth outside the camp to a clean place, where the ashes are poured out, and burn it on wood with fire. Where the ashes are poured out it shall be burned.
      13 "'If the whole congregation of Israel sins, and the thing is hidden from the eyes of the assembly, and they have done any of the things which Yahweh has commanded not to be done, and are guilty;
      14 when the sin in which they have sinned is known, then the assembly shall offer a young bull for a sin offering, and bring it before the Tent of Meeting.
      15 The elders of the congregation shall lay their hands on the head of the bull before Yahweh; and the bull shall be killed before Yahweh.
      16 The anointed priest shall bring of the blood of the bull to the Tent of Meeting:
      17 and the priest shall dip his finger in the blood, and sprinkle it seven times before Yahweh, before the veil.
      18 He shall put some of the blood on the horns of the altar which is before Yahweh, that is in the Tent of Meeting; and the rest of the blood he shall pour out at the base of the altar of burnt offering, which is at the door of the Tent of Meeting.
      19 All its fat he shall take from it, and burn it on the altar.
      20 Thus shall he do with the bull; as he did with the bull of the sin offering, so shall he do with this; and the priest shall make atonement for them, and they shall be forgiven.
      21 He shall carry forth the bull outside the camp, and burn it as he burned the first bull. It is the sin offering for the assembly.
      22 "'When a ruler sins, and unwittingly does any one of all the things which Yahweh his God has commanded not to be done, and is guilty;
      23 if his sin, in which he has sinned, is made known to him, he shall bring as his offering a goat, a male without blemish.
      24 He shall lay his hand on the head of the goat, and kill it in the place where they kill the burnt offering before Yahweh. It is a sin offering.
      25 The priest shall take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger, and put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering. He shall pour out the rest of its blood at the base of the altar of burnt offering.
      26 All its fat he shall burn on the altar, like the fat of the sacrifice of peace offerings; and the priest shall make atonement for him concerning his sin, and he will be forgiven.
      27 "'If anyone of the common people sins unwittingly, in doing any of the things which Yahweh has commanded not to be done, and is guilty;
      28 if his sin, which he has sinned, is made known to him, then he shall bring for his offering a goat, a female without blemish, for his sin which he has sinned.
      29 He shall lay his hand on the head of the sin offering, and kill the sin offering in the place of burnt offering.
      30 The priest shall take some of its blood with his finger, and put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering; and the rest of its blood he shall pour out at the base of the altar.
      31 All its fat he shall take away, like the fat is taken away from off of the sacrifice of peace offerings; and the priest shall burn it on the altar for a pleasant aroma to Yahweh; and the priest shall make atonement for him, and he will be forgiven.
      32 "'If he brings a lamb as his offering for a sin offering, he shall bring a female without blemish.
      33 He shall lay his hand on the head of the sin offering, and kill it for a sin offering in the place where they kill the burnt offering.
      34 The priest shall take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger, and put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering; and all the rest of its blood he shall pour out at the base of the altar.
      35 All its fat he shall take away, like the fat of the lamb is taken away from the sacrifice of peace offerings; and the priest shall burn them on the altar, on the offerings of Yahweh made by fire; and the priest shall make atonement for him concerning his sin that he has sinned, and he will be forgiven.

      Lévitique 24

      1 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
      2 "Command the children of Israel, that they bring to you pure olive oil beaten for the light, to cause a lamp to burn continually.
      3 Outside of the veil of the Testimony, in the Tent of Meeting, shall Aaron keep it in order from evening to morning before Yahweh continually: it shall be a statute forever throughout your generations.
      4 He shall keep in order the lamps on the pure gold lampstand before Yahweh continually.
      5 "You shall take fine flour, and bake twelve cakes of it: two tenth parts of an ephah shall be in one cake.
      6 You shall set them in two rows, six on a row, on the pure gold table before Yahweh.
      7 You shall put pure frankincense on each row, that it may be to the bread for a memorial, even an offering made by fire to Yahweh.
      8 Every Sabbath day he shall set it in order before Yahweh continually. It is on the behalf of the children of Israel an everlasting covenant.
      9 It shall be for Aaron and his sons; and they shall eat it in a holy place: for it is most holy to him of the offerings of Yahweh made by fire by a perpetual statute."
      10 The son of an Israelite woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the children of Israel; and the son of the Israelite woman and a man of Israel strove together in the camp.
      11 The son of the Israelite woman blasphemed the Name, and cursed; and they brought him to Moses. His mother's name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan.
      12 They put him in custody, until the will of Yahweh should be declared to them.
      13 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
      14 "Bring out of the camp him who cursed; and let all who heard him lay their hands on his head, and let all the congregation stone him.
      15 You shall speak to the children of Israel, saying, 'Whoever curses his God shall bear his sin.
      16 He who blasphemes the name of Yahweh, he shall surely be put to death; all the congregation shall certainly stone him: the foreigner as well as the native-born, when he blasphemes the Name, shall be put to death.
      17 "'He who strikes any man mortally shall surely be put to death.
      18 He who strikes an animal mortally shall make it good, life for life.
      19 If anyone injures his neighbor; as he has done, so shall it be done to him:
      20 fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; as he has injured someone, so shall it be done to him.
      21 He who kills an animal shall make it good; and he who kills a man shall be put to death.
      22 You shall have one kind of law, for the foreigner as well as the native-born: for I am Yahweh your God.'"
      23 Moses spoke to the children of Israel; and they brought out him who had cursed out of the camp, and stoned him with stones. The children of Israel did as Yahweh commanded Moses.
