LION

(Hébreu :

1. ari, aryéh, lion adulte, Ge 49:9 Jug 14:8 Da 6:7, etc. ;

2. lâbi, lebîyyah, lion ou lionne, Ge 49:9, Job 4:11, Eze 19:2 ;

3. kephîr, lionceau, Jug 14:5, Job 4:10, Eze 19:2, etc. ;

4. goûr ou gôr tout jeune lionceau, Na 2:11,13, Eze 19:3,5, Jer 51:38 ;

5. layîch, terme poétique, Job 4:11, Pr 30:30, Esa 30:6, etc ;

6. châ-khal, autre terme poétique, Job 4:10 10:16 28:8, Ps 91:13 ;

7. bené châkhatz, fauves majestueux [litt. : fils de fierté], Job 28:8 41:25.

L'A. T, fait allusion à son terrifiant rugissement (Am 3:8, Esa 5:29, Pr 19:12 20:2 etc.), mais on lui compare aussi la voix de Dieu qui réprimande ou menace (Am 8:2, Os 11:10, Jer 25:30, Joe 3:16)

--Le lion représente :

la force exceptionnelle (Jug 14:18,2Sa 1:23), la force redoutable (Sir 25:16, Sag 11:17), la force destructrice (Ps 7:3, Esa 38:13, Jer 2:30, La 3:10, Joe 1:6 etc.), donc les méchants (Ps 10:9 17:12 22:14 etc.), les mauvais chefs (Sop 3:3,2Ti 4:17), les puissants exploiteurs (Sir 13:19), les ennemis d'Israël (Jer 49:19 50:17, Da 7:4 etc.) ;
--Le lion symbolise aussi :
le châtiment de Dieu (Os 5:14 13:7, Sir 27:28).
--Mais il représente d'autre part :
le courage invincible (2Sa 17:10, Esa 31:4, Pr 28:1),

et de grands héros guerriers d'Israël sont donc appelés des lions : Juda, Dan, Judas Macchabée (Ge 49:9, De 33:22, 1Ma 3:4) ;

Jn L.

      Jérémie 25

      30 Therefore prophesy you against them all these words, and tell them, Yahweh will roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he will mightily roar against his fold; he will give a shout, as those who tread grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth.

      Lamentations 3

      10 He is to me as a bear lying in wait, as a lion in secret places.

      Ezéchiel 1

      10 As for the likeness of their faces, they had the face of a man; and the four of them had the face of a lion on the right side; and the four of them had the face of an ox on the left side; the four of them also had the face of an eagle.

      Ezéchiel 19

      1 Moreover, take up a lamentation for the princes of Israel,
      2 and say, What was your mother? A lioness: she couched among lions, in the midst of the young lions she nourished her cubs.
      3 She brought up one of her cubs: he became a young lion, and he learned to catch the prey; he devoured men.
      4 The nations also heard of him; he was taken in their pit; and they brought him with hooks to the land of Egypt.
      5 Now when she saw that she had waited, and her hope was lost, then she took another of her cubs, and made him a young lion.
      6 He went up and down among the lions; he became a young lion, and he learned to catch the prey; he devoured men.
      7 He knew their palaces, and laid waste their cities; and the land was desolate, and its fullness, because of the noise of his roaring.
      8 Then the nations set against him on every side from the provinces; and they spread their net over him; he was taken in their pit.
      9 They put him in a cage with hooks, and brought him to the king of Babylon; they brought him into strongholds, that his voice should no more be heard on the mountains of Israel.
      10 Your mother was like a vine, in your blood, planted by the waters: it was fruitful and full of branches by reason of many waters.
      11 It had strong rods for the scepters of those who bore rule, and their stature was exalted among the thick boughs, and they were seen in their height with the multitude of their branches.
      12 But it was plucked up in fury, it was cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up its fruit: its strong rods were broken off and withered; the fire consumed them.
      13 Now it is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty land.
      14 Fire is gone out of the rods of its branches, it has devoured its fruit, so that there is in it no strong rod to be a scepter to rule. This is a lamentation, and shall be for a lamentation.

      Daniel 6

      7 All the presidents of the kingdom, the deputies and the satraps, the counselors and the governors, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a strong decree, that whoever shall ask a petition of any god or man for thirty days, except of you, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.

      10 They will walk after Yahweh, who will roar like a lion; for he will roar, and the children will come trembling from the west.

      Joël 1

      6 For a nation has come up on my land, strong, and without number. His teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he has the fangs of a lioness.

      Joël 3

      16 Yahweh will roar from Zion, and thunder from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth will shake; but Yahweh will be a refuge to his people, and a stronghold to the children of Israel.

      Amos 3

      8 The lion has roared. Who will not fear? The Lord Yahweh has spoken. Who can but prophesy?
      12 Thus says Yahweh: "As the shepherd rescues out of the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear, so shall the children of Israel be rescued who sit in Samaria on the corner of a couch, and on the silken cushions of a bed."

      Amos 8

      2 He said, "Amos, what do you see?" I said, "A basket of summer fruit." Then Yahweh said to me, "The end has come on my people Israel. I will not again pass by them any more.

      7 The remnant of Jacob will be in the midst of many peoples, like dew from Yahweh, like showers on the grass, that don't wait for man, nor wait for the sons of men.

      Nahum 2

      11 Where is the den of the lions, and the feeding place of the young lions, where the lion and the lioness walked, the lion's cubs, and no one made them afraid?
      13 "Behold, I am against you," says Yahweh of Armies, "and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword will devour your young lions; and I will cut off your prey from the earth, and the voice of your messengers will no longer be heard."

      33 who, through faith subdued kingdoms, worked out righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,
