MÉRARI

Nom d'un fils de Lévi (Ge 46:11, Ex 6:16-19, Esd 8:19,1Ch 6:1). Les fils de Mérari ou Mérarites étaient, d'après les textes rituels du Pentateuque et des Chron., chargés de la garde et du transport de diverses pièces du tabernacle (No 3:36 7:8 10:17).

Ils étaient divisés en deux classes, portant les noms de deux fils de Mérari : Machli et Musi (Ex 6:19,1Ch 6:19 etc.). Comme Lévites, les Mérarites reçurent des villes des territoires de Zabulon, de Gad et de Ruben (Jos 21:7).

      16 These are the names of the sons of Levi according to their generations: Gershon, and Kohath, and Merari; and the years of the life of Levi were one hundred thirty-seven years.
