ZÉBÉDÉE

(de Zébédaios, forme grécisée du nom hébreu Zabdï)

Père de Jacques et Jean (Mt 10:2) ; sa femme s'appelait Salomé (comp. Mr 15:40 et Mt 27:56). Lui et ses fils étaient pêcheurs sur le lac de Galilée ; ils avaient des ouvriers (Mr 1:20) et s'étaient associés avec Simon (Lu 5:10). A l'appel de Jésus, ses deux fils le laissèrent à son métier avec son personnel, pour suivre eux-mêmes le Maître dans son ministère (Mr 1:19 et suivant, Mt 4:21 et suivant) ; mais après sa mort on les trouve revenus à leurs barques et à leurs filets (Jn 21:2).

Ils sont désignés encore d'autres fois comme « les fils de Zébédée » (Mr 3:17 et parallèle, Mr 10:35 et parallèle, Mt 26:37), mais il n'est question nulle part de relations directes entre Zébédée leur père et Jésus. Voir Salomé.
