Lévitique 26.40

Et ils confesseront leur iniquité et l'iniquité de leurs pères, selon leurs infidélités par lesquelles ils ont été infidèles envers moi, et aussi comment ils ont marché en opposition avec moi,

Ce morceau final est la base des promesses par lesquelles les prophètes subséquents terminent leurs plus terribles menaces.

Il faudra qu'ils en arrivent à reconnaître non seulement leurs fautes, mais aussi la nécessité dans laquelle Dieu s'est trouvé de procéder à leur égard comme il l'a fait, et comment il a dû leur rendre la pareille de leur conduite envers lui.

La prospérité et l'affliction des Israélites étaient proportionnelles à leur obéissance. Il en était de même pour la richesse du pays, qui, elle aussi, était en rapport avec la docilité du peuple et les jugements divins, avec sa conduite. Israël faisait l'objet d'une alliance particulière avec Dieu.

L'égarement général d'un peuple ne peut le conduire qu'à la ruine, tout particulièrement s'il a perçu la lumière de l'évangile et de la Parole de Dieu. Quels que soient les peuples qui pratiquent le péché, tôt ou tard, ils courent à la ruine. Recherchons l'humilité, en ce qui concerne nos péchés, nous pourrons alors éloigner la tempête divine qui risque de planer sur nous ! Dieu nous annonce, que par une telle attitude, nous pourrons prendre réellement conscience des éléments qui concernent notre repos céleste et la paix éternelle.
