      1 Voici la liste des ancêtres de Jésus-Christ : David est l’ancêtre de Jésus-Christ, et Abraham est l’ancêtre de David.
      2 Abraham est le père d’Isaac. Isaac est le père de Jacob. Jacob est le père de Juda et ses frères.
      3 Juda est le père de Pérès et de Zéra, leur mère est Tamar. Pérès est le père de Hesron. Hesron est le père de Ram.
      4 Ram est le père d’Amminadab. Amminadab est le père de Nachon. Nachon est le père de Salma.
      5 Salma est le père de Booz, la mère de Booz est Rahab. Booz est le père d’Obed, la mère d’Obed est Ruth. Obed est le père de Jessé.

      17 Voici le total : il y a 14 générations depuis Abraham jusqu’à David. Il y a 14 générations depuis David jusqu’à ce qu’on emmène les Israélites prisonniers à Babylone. Ensuite, il y a encore 14 générations jusqu’au Christ.
      18 Voici comment Jésus-Christ est né. Marie, sa mère, est promise en mariage à Joseph. Mais, avant d’habiter avec Joseph, Marie attend un enfant par la puissance de l’Esprit Saint.
      19 Joseph, son fiancé, est un homme juste. Il ne veut pas accuser Marie devant tout le monde, alors il décide de la renvoyer en secret.
      20 Au moment où il pense à cela, l’ange du Seigneur se montre à lui dans un rêve. L’ange lui dit : « Joseph, fils de David, n’aie pas peur de prendre chez toi Marie, ta femme. Oui, l’enfant qui est dans son ventre vient de l’Esprit Saint.
      21 Elle va mettre au monde un fils, et toi, tu l’appelleras Jésus. En effet, c’est lui qui sauvera son peuple de ses péchés. »
      22 Ainsi se réalise ce que le prophète a dit de la part du Seigneur :
      23 « La jeune fille attendra un enfant. Elle mettra au monde un fils. On l’appellera Emmanuel, ce qui veut dire “Dieu avec nous”. »
      24 Quand Joseph se réveille, il fait ce que l’ange du Seigneur lui a commandé. Il prend sa femme chez lui,
      25 mais il ne s’unit pas à elle jusqu’au jour où Marie met au monde un fils. Joseph donne à l’enfant le nom de Jésus.

      Matthieu 2

      1 Jésus naît à Bethléem, en Judée, au moment où Hérode le Grand est roi. Alors, des sages viennent de l’est et arrivent à Jérusalem.
      2 Ils demandent : « Où est le roi des Juifs qui vient de naître ? Nous avons vu son étoile se lever à l’est, et nous sommes venus l’adorer. »
      3 Quand le roi Hérode apprend cela, il est troublé, et tous les habitants de Jérusalem aussi.
      4 Le roi réunit tous les chefs des prêtres de son peuple avec les maîtres de la loi. Il leur demande : « À quel endroit est-ce que le Messie doit naître ? »
      5 Ils lui répondent : « Le Messie doit naître à Bethléem, en Judée. En effet, le prophète a écrit :
      6 “Et toi, Bethléem, du pays de Juda, tu n’es sûrement pas la moins importante des villes de Juda. Oui, un chef va venir de chez toi, il sera le berger de mon peuple, Israël.” »
      7 Alors Hérode fait appeler les sages en secret. Il leur demande : « À quel moment est-ce que l’étoile est apparue ? »
      8 Ensuite il les envoie à Bethléem en disant : « Allez vous renseigner exactement sur l’enfant. Quand vous l’aurez trouvé, venez me prévenir, et moi aussi, j’irai l’adorer. »
      9 Après ces paroles du roi, les sages se mettent en route. Ils aperçoivent l’étoile qu’ils ont vue à l’est. Ils sont remplis d’une très grande joie en la voyant. L’étoile avance devant eux. Elle arrive au-dessus de l’endroit où l’enfant se trouve, et elle s’arrête là.
      11 Les sages entrent dans la maison, et ils voient l’enfant avec Marie, sa mère. Ils se mettent à genoux et adorent l’enfant. Ensuite, ils ouvrent leurs bagages et ils lui offrent des cadeaux : de l’or, de l’encens et de la myrrhe.
      12 Après cela, Dieu les avertit dans un rêve de ne pas retourner chez Hérode. Alors ils prennent un autre chemin pour rentrer dans leur pays.
      13 Quand les sages sont partis, l’ange du Seigneur se montre à Joseph dans un rêve. L’ange lui dit : « Lève-toi, prends avec toi l’enfant et sa mère. Pars vite pour l’Égypte ! Reste là-bas. Je te dirai quand tu dois revenir. En effet, Hérode va chercher l’enfant pour le faire mourir. »
      14 Joseph se lève, il prend avec lui l’enfant et sa mère et il part pour l’Égypte, pendant la nuit.
      15 Il reste là-bas jusqu’à la mort d’Hérode le Grand. Ainsi se réalise ce que le prophète a dit de la part du Seigneur : « J’ai appelé mon fils à sortir d’Égypte. »
      16 Quand Hérode voit que les sages l’ont trompé, il est très en colère. Les sages lui ont dit à quel moment l’étoile est apparue. C’est pourquoi il donne l’ordre de tuer tous les enfants qui ont deux ans ou moins de deux ans, à Bethléem et dans les environs.
      17 Ainsi s’est réalisée cette parole du prophète Jérémie :
      18 « Dans Rama, on entend une plainte, des pleurs amers et des cris de deuil. C’est Rachel qui pleure sur ses enfants. Elle ne veut pas être consolée, parce qu’ils ne sont plus. »
      19 Après la mort d’Hérode, l’ange du Seigneur se montre à Joseph dans un rêve, en Égypte.
      20 L’ange lui dit : « Lève-toi, prends avec toi l’enfant et sa mère et retourne dans le pays d’Israël. En effet, ceux qui voulaient tuer l’enfant sont morts. »
      21 Joseph se lève, il prend avec lui l’enfant et sa mère et il retourne dans le pays d’Israël.
      22 Mais il apprend qu’Arkélaos est roi de Judée, depuis la mort d’Hérode, son père. Alors Joseph a peur d’aller en Judée. Le Seigneur lui parle dans un rêve, et Joseph va dans la région de Galilée.
      23 Il vient habiter dans une ville qui s’appelle Nazareth. Ainsi les choses se passent comme les prophètes l’avaient annoncé : « On l’appellera Nazaréen. »

      Luc 2

      1 À cette époque, l’empereur Auguste donne l’ordre de compter les habitants de tous les pays.
      2 C’est la première fois qu’on fait cela. À ce moment-là, Quirinius est gouverneur de Syrie.
      3 Tout le monde va se faire inscrire, chacun dans la ville de ses ancêtres.
      4 Joseph quitte donc la ville de Nazareth en Galilée pour aller en Judée, à Bethléem. C’est la ville du roi David. En effet, David est l’ancêtre de Joseph.
      5 Joseph va se faire inscrire avec Marie, sa femme, qui attend un enfant.
      6 Pendant qu’ils sont à Bethléem, le moment arrive où Marie doit accoucher.
      7 Elle met au monde un fils, son premier enfant. Elle l’enveloppe dans une couverture et elle le couche dans une mangeoire. En effet, il n’y a pas de place pour eux dans la salle où logent les gens de passage.
      8 Dans la même région, il y a des bergers. Ils vivent dans les champs, et pendant la nuit, ils gardent leur troupeau.
      9 Un ange du Seigneur se présente devant eux. La gloire du Seigneur les enveloppe de lumière, alors ils ont très peur.
      10 L’ange leur dit : « N’ayez pas peur. Oui, je viens vous annoncer une bonne nouvelle qui sera une grande joie pour tout votre peuple.
      11 Aujourd’hui, dans la ville de David, un Sauveur est né pour vous. C’est le Christ, le Seigneur.
      12 Voici comment vous allez le reconnaître : vous trouverez un petit enfant enveloppé dans une couverture et couché dans une mangeoire. »
      13 Tout à coup, il y a avec l’ange une troupe nombreuse qui vient du ciel. Ils chantent la louange de Dieu :
      14 « Gloire à Dieu au plus haut des cieux, et sur la terre paix à ceux que Dieu aime ! »
      15 Ensuite, les anges quittent les bergers et retournent au ciel. Alors les bergers se disent entre eux : « Allons jusqu’à Bethléem, et voyons ce qui est arrivé, ce que le Seigneur Dieu nous a fait connaître. »
      16 Ils partent vite et ils trouvent Marie, Joseph et le petit enfant couché dans la mangeoire.
      17 Quand ils le voient, ils racontent ce que l’ange leur a dit sur cet enfant.
      18 Tous ceux qui entendent les bergers sont étonnés de leurs paroles.
      19 Marie retient tout ce qui s’est passé, elle réfléchit à cela dans son cœur.
      20 Ensuite les bergers repartent. Ils rendent gloire à Dieu et chantent sa louange pour tout ce qu’ils ont vu et entendu. En effet, tout s’est passé comme l’ange l’avait annoncé.
      21 Une semaine plus tard, c’est le moment de circoncire l’enfant. On lui donne le nom de Jésus. C’est le nom que l’ange a indiqué à Marie avant qu’elle soit enceinte.
      22 Après cela, le moment arrive où Marie et Joseph doivent faire la cérémonie de purification, comme la loi de Moïse le demande. Alors ils amènent l’enfant à Jérusalem pour le présenter au Seigneur.
      23 En effet, la loi du Seigneur dit : « Il faut donner au Seigneur le premier garçon né dans une famille. »
      24 Marie et Joseph offrent aussi le sacrifice que la loi du Seigneur demande : deux tourterelles ou deux jeunes pigeons.
      25 À Jérusalem, il y a un homme appelé Siméon. Cet homme est juste et fidèle à Dieu et il attend celui qui doit être la force du peuple d’Israël. L’Esprit Saint est avec Siméon
      26 et il lui a dit à l’avance : « Tu ne mourras pas avant de voir le Messie du Seigneur Dieu. »
      27 Alors, Siméon, poussé par l’Esprit Saint, va dans le temple. À ce moment-là, les parents de Jésus amènent leur enfant pour faire ce que la loi du Seigneur demande pour lui.
      28 Siméon prend l’enfant dans ses bras, il remercie Dieu en disant :
      29 « Maintenant, Seigneur, tu peux laisser ton serviteur mourir dans la paix, comme tu l’as dit.
      30 Oui, mes yeux ont vu le salut que tu nous donnes.
      31 Tu l’as préparé devant tous les peuples.
      32 C’est la lumière qui te fera connaître au monde entier, c’est la gloire de ton peuple Israël. »
      33 Le père et la mère de l’enfant sont étonnés de ce que Siméon dit de lui.
      34 Siméon les bénit et il dit à Marie, la mère de Jésus : « À cause de ton enfant, beaucoup en Israël vont tomber ou se relever. Il sera un signe de Dieu, mais les gens le rejetteront.
      35 Ainsi on connaîtra les pensées cachées dans le cœur de beaucoup de personnes. Et toi, Marie, la souffrance te transpercera comme une lance. »
      36 Il y a aussi une femme prophète qui s’appelle Anne. C’est la fille de Phanouel, de la tribu d’Asser. Elle est très vieille. Elle a vécu avec son mari pendant sept ans,
      37 puis elle est devenue veuve. Elle a 84 ans. Anne ne quitte pas le temple et elle sert Dieu nuit et jour, en jeûnant et en priant.
      38 Elle est là en même temps que Siméon et se met à remercier Dieu. Elle parle de l’enfant à tous ceux qui attendent la libération de Jérusalem.
      39 Quand les parents de Jésus ont fait tout ce que la loi du Seigneur demande, ils retournent en Galilée, à Nazareth, leur ville.
      40 L’enfant grandit et se développe. Il est rempli de sagesse, et le Dieu d’amour est avec lui.

      11 Josiah became the father of Jechoniah and his brothers, at the time of the exile to Babylon.
      12 After the exile to Babylon, Jechoniah became the father of Shealtiel. Shealtiel became the father of Zerubbabel.
      13 Zerubbabel became the father of Abiud. Abiud became the father of Eliakim. Eliakim became the father of Azor.
      14 Azor became the father of Sadoc. Sadoc became the father of Achim. Achim became the father of Eliud.
      15 Eliud became the father of Eleazar. Eleazar became the father of Matthan. Matthan became the father of Jacob.
      16 Jacob became the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, from whom was born Jesus , who is called Christ.
      17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; from David to the exile to Babylon fourteen generations; and from the carrying away to Babylon to the Christ, fourteen generations.
      18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was like this; for after his mother, Mary, was engaged to Joseph, before they came together, she was found pregnant by the Holy Spirit.
      19 Joseph, her husband, being a righteous man, and not willing to make her a public example, intended to put her away secretly.
      20 But when he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, don't be afraid to take to yourself Mary, your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.
      21 She shall bring forth a son. You shall call his name Jesus, for it is he who shall save his people from their sins."
      22 Now all this has happened, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying,
      23 "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son. They shall call his name Immanuel"; which is, being interpreted, "God with us."
      24 Joseph arose from his sleep, and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took his wife to himself;
      25 and didn't know her sexually until she had brought forth her firstborn son. He named him Jesus.

      Matthieu 2

      1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying,
      2 "Where is he who is born King of the Jews? For we saw his star in the east, and have come to worship him."
      3 When King Herod heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
      4 Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he asked them where the Christ would be born.
      5 They said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, for this is written through the prophet,
      6 'You Bethlehem, land of Judah, are in no way least among the princes of Judah: for out of you shall come forth a governor, who shall shepherd my people, Israel.'"
      7 Then Herod secretly called the wise men, and learned from them exactly what time the star appeared.
      8 He sent them to Bethlehem, and said, "Go and search diligently for the young child. When you have found him, bring me word, so that I also may come and worship him."
      9 They, having heard the king, went their way; and behold, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, until it came and stood over where the young child was.
      10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.
      11 They came into the house and saw the young child with Mary, his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Opening their treasures, they offered to him gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
      12 Being warned in a dream that they shouldn't return to Herod, they went back to their own country another way.
      13 Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, "Arise and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and stay there until I tell you, for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him."
      14 He arose and took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt,
      15 and was there until the death of Herod; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, "Out of Egypt I called my son."
      16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked by the wise men, was exceedingly angry, and sent out, and killed all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all the surrounding countryside, from two years old and under, according to the exact time which he had learned from the wise men.
      17 Then that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled, saying,
      18 "A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children; she wouldn't be comforted, because they are no more."
      19 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying,
      20 "Arise and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel, for those who sought the young child's life are dead."
      21 He arose and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.
      22 But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in the place of his father, Herod, he was afraid to go there. Being warned in a dream, he withdrew into the region of Galilee,
      23 and came and lived in a city called Nazareth; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophets: "He will be called a Nazarene."

      Luc 2

      1 Now it happened in those days, that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be enrolled.
      2 This was the first enrollment made when Quirinius was governor of Syria.
      3 All went to enroll themselves, everyone to his own city.
      4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David;
      5 to enroll himself with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him as wife, being pregnant.
      6 It happened, while they were there, that the day had come that she should give birth.
      7 She brought forth her firstborn son, and she wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a feeding trough, because there was no room for them in the inn.
      8 There were shepherds in the same country staying in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock.
      9 Behold, an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
      10 The angel said to them, "Don't be afraid, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be to all the people.
      11 For there is born to you, this day, in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
      12 This is the sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in strips of cloth, lying in a feeding trough."
      13 Suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army praising God, and saying,
      14 "Glory to God in the highest, on earth peace, good will toward men."
      15 It happened, when the angels went away from them into the sky, that the shepherds said one to another, "Let's go to Bethlehem, now, and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us."
      16 They came with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the baby was lying in the feeding trough.
      17 When they saw it, they publicized widely the saying which was spoken to them about this child.
      18 All who heard it wondered at the things which were spoken to them by the shepherds.
      19 But Mary kept all these sayings, pondering them in her heart.
      20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, just as it was told them.
      21 When eight days were fulfilled for the circumcision of the child, his name was called Jesus, which was given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
      22 When the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were fulfilled, they brought him up to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord
      23 (as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord"),
      24 and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, "A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons."
      25 Behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him.
      26 It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ.
      27 He came in the Spirit into the temple. When the parents brought in the child, Jesus, that they might do concerning him according to the custom of the law,
      28 then he received him into his arms, and blessed God, and said,
      29 "Now you are releasing your servant, Master, according to your word, in peace;
      30 for my eyes have seen your salvation,
      31 which you have prepared before the face of all peoples;
      32 a light for revelation to the nations, and the glory of your people Israel."
      33 Joseph and his mother were marveling at the things which were spoken concerning him,
      34 and Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary, his mother, "Behold, this child is set for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which is spoken against.
      35 Yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul, that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed."
      36 There was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher (she was of a great age, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity,
      37 and she had been a widow for about eighty-four years), who didn't depart from the temple, worshipping with fastings and petitions night and day.
      38 Coming up at that very hour, she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of him to all those who were looking for redemption in Jerusalem.
      39 When they had accomplished all things that were according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth.
      40 The child was growing, and was becoming strong in spirit, being filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him.
