Proverbes 29.18

Quand il n'y a point de vision, le peuple est sans frein ; mais bienheureux celui qui garde la loi !
Lorsqu'il n'y a point de vision, le peuple est sans frein ; mais heureux est celui qui garde la loi !
Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed.

Quand le peuple n'a pas de prophète pour lui rappeler les droits de Dieu, la loi, il se livre à ses propres inspirations. Aussi disait-on d'une période d'affaissement religieux : La parole de l'Eternel était rare en ces jours-là et les visions n'étaient point fréquentes (1Samuel 3.1). Souvent, en revanche, on a vu des prophètes rendre d'éminents services au monarque et au pays tout entier.

Notre verset est un magnifique hommage rendu par la Sagesse aux Prophètes, en tant que. défenseurs de la Loi.
