Et aux saints... Le psalmiste s'adresse à la fois à l'Eternel, comme à son souverain bien, et à ceux qui lui sont consacrés et qu'il appelle saints. La construction grammaticale que nous admettons, et qui donne à la phrase un sens si clair, ne s'obtient que par la transposition du mot et (en hébreu une seule lettre), que l'on met devant le mot saints au lieu de le laisser devant le mot nobles. Sans cette correction, admise par plusieurs exégètes, la phrase reste lourde et son sens difficile à saisir.

Le nom de saint est donné à Israël (Exode 19.6), en sa qualité de peuple appartenant en propre à l'Eternel. David pense ici à ceux qui prennent au sérieux cette position d'élus de l'Eternel. Il reconnaît en eux la vraie supériorité que le vulgaire cherche partout ailleurs.

Les nobles. On traduit aussi : les excellents, les hommes illustres. David donne ce titre à ceux qui en sont dignes devant Dieu. La gloire est le reflet de la sainteté. Du regard de l'esprit, le psalmiste la discerne chez les saints, à travers les voiles qui la cachent, mais qui disparaîtront tôt ou tard. Comparez Colossiens 3.3-4.
