22 à 29 Troisième devoir : Acquitter les dîmes.

22 à 25 Le Deutéronome ordonne ici de prélever une dîme sur les productions de la terre après la récolte terminée (verset 22) et aussi de consacrer tous les premiers-nés du bétail (verset 23). Ces produits doivent être consommés par l'israélite lui-même et sa famille dans le sanctuaire central, à moins que ce lieu de culte ne soit trop éloigné. Dans ce cas les produits naturels peuvent être échangés pour de l'argent, et la somme provenant de la vente sera consacrée dans le lieu du sanctuaire au but indiqué (versets 24 et 26).

Ce texte traite de la dîme sur tous les produits des champs. Les directives données ici vont à l'encontre de la cupidité, du manque de confiance envers Dieu et de l'égoïsme du cœur humain. Elles instaurent les principes de partage, de libéralité et de joie ainsi que le soutien du pauvre. Il nous est dit également qu'il fallait se réjouir en famille, lors du partage de ces revenus avec les plus démunis.

Si nous servons le Seigneur dans un tel esprit et si nous pratiquons le bien, avec ce dont nous disposons, il nous est promis que nous serons bénis dans tous nos revenus ici-bas. Nous connaîtrons la bénédiction divine et la prospérité ; hors de ce contexte, toutes nos tentatives seront vaines.

La bénédiction divine ne s'exerce que sur ceux qui travaillent courageusement. Ne comptons pas que Dieu nous aide si nous vivons dans l'oisiveté et la paresse. La croissance ne viendra que si nous sommes décidés à travailler. Soyons aussi actifs dans l'exercice de la piété et des bonnes œuvres, nous connaîtrons alors la voie de la prospérité !
