Les tribus de Ruben et de Gad et la demi-tribu de Manassé n’ont pas été fidèles au Dieu de leurs ancêtres. Ils l’ont abandonné pour adorer les faux dieux des peuples que Dieu avait détruits à leur arrivée. Alors le Dieu d’Israël a excité contre eux le roi d’Assyrie Poul, c’est-à-dire Téglath-Phalasar. Téglath-Phalasar a déporté ces tribus dans les régions de Hala, Habor et Hara, et près du fleuve Gozan, où elles habitent encore aujourd’hui.
