Quiconque pèche, transgresse aussi la loi ; car le péché est une transgression de la loi.

Grec : Quiconque fait le péché, fait aussi la transgression, et le péché est la transgression.

Celui qui fait le péché a beau se rattacher à l'Eglise et se prétendre enfant de Dieu : il y a incompatibilité absolue entre la communion de Dieu et le péché ; (Matthieu 7.23) car Dieu, loin de laisser à l'homme le jugement arbitraire de ce qui lui déplaît ou lui est agréable, a manifesté sa sainte volonté par la loi.

Comment donc, en transgressant volontairement cette loi, en foulant aux pieds cette volonté, espérer être en communion avec Dieu, être enfant de Dieu ? C'est au contraire se mettre en pleine révolte contre lui.

Le Nouveau Testament tout entier suppose ou proclame la valeur permanente de la loi, comme expression de la sainte volonté de Dieu.
