Salomon reçut Bath-Shéba, avec tout le respect dû à une mère ; personne ne demanda le sujet de sa requête auprès du roi. Il n'est pas bon, pour un homme sage, d'accorder une demande douteuse, ou d'être mêlé à une mauvaise cause. Si l'on se réfère aux coutumes orientales, il était clair qu'Adonija ait cherché à monter sur le trône, en demandant à épouser Abishag ; Salomon n'aurait jamais ainsi été en sécurité, tant que son frère était en vie. Les ambitieux et impétueux, par leur tempérament, courent souvent à leur perte. Plus d'une tête tomba en essayant d'acquérir la couronne !
