World English Bible It happened, when Ahab heard those words, that he tore his clothes, and put sackcloth on his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly.

27 à 29 Repentance d'Achab.

Marchait doucement ; à pas lents, comme un homme brisé par la douleur. Cette repentance était sincère, quoique peu profonde ; aussi l'Eternel lui en tient-il compte. Dès qu'il a déchiré ses vêlements, revêtu le sac et la corde, et qu'il s'est couché dans la poussière, Dieu dit à Elie : N'as-tu pas vu qu'Achab s'est humilié ? Dieu, a dit quelqu'un, paie par un bienfait temporaire une repentance temporaire.
