Il veut d'autant moins dominer despotiquement sur la foi de ses frères, que c'est par cette même foi qu'ils demeurent fermes. S'il en était autrement, toute discipline ne servirait de rien.
En l'exerçant, il est bien convaincu qu'il ne fait, en définitive, que contribuer à la joie de l'Eglise, joie qui serait bientôt troublée par les désordres qu'il avait à reprendre, si les membres n'étaient pas affermis par la foi.
