Segond 21 Depuis le Jourdain et en direction du soleil levant, il conquit tout le pays de Galaad, celui des Gadites, des Rubénites et des Manassites, depuis Aroër, qui se trouve sur le torrent de l'Arnon, jusqu'à Galaad et au Basan.

World English Bible from the Jordan eastward, all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, and the Reubenites, and the Manassites, from Aroer, which is by the valley of the Arnon, even Gilead and Bashan.

Tout le pays de Galaad : le pays qui s'étend et au sud et immédiatement au nord du Jabbok (Deutéronome 3.10). Gad, qui occupait le centre de ce vaste territoire, est nommé en premier. Là se trouvait Ramoth, le point le plus disputé entre les deux peuples ennemis. La prise de cette ville par les Syriens entraîna d'abord la conquête de Gad tout entier, après quoi Ruben, au sud, et Manassé, au nord, furent également occupés. Sur Aroër, voir Deutéronome 2.36, note, et sur l'Arnon, Nombres 21.13, note.

Et Galaad et Basan. Les mots : et Galaad, ont le sens de : ainsi donc Galaad. Puis à cette immense perte vint s'ajouter, comme conséquence inévitable, celle de Basan (Deutéronome 3.10, note), au nord et à l'est de la Palestine, plus rapproché de Damas et plus éloigné de Samarie. Les deux rois d'Israël et de Juda, Joram et Achazia, ainsi que Jéhu lui-même, avaient commis la faute de s'éloigner de Ramoth, qui était le principal boulevard de cette contrée, et l'avaient ainsi livrée en proie à l'ennemi.
