Il se peut que le commencement du mécontentement date de son idolâtrie et qu'aggravé par la honteuse défaite du roi par le roi d'Israël, ce sentiment longtemps contenu ait éclaté enfin à l'occasion d'une circonstance inconnue.

Lakis : ville cananéenne qui avait été conquise par Josué, puis incorporée à Juda et fortifiée par Roboam. Amatsia s'y réfugie avec l'espoir de pouvoir s'enfuir chez les Philistins, s'il est poursuivi.
