Néco avait poursuivi sa marche vers le nord et travaillait à soumettre tous les Etats syriens en-deça de l'Euphrate. Il ordonna sans doute à Joachaz de venir lui rendre hommage, comme l'avait fait le roi d'Assyrie à l'égard de Manassé, et le jeta dans les chaînes. D'autres ont supposé qu'il l'avait fait prendre à Jérusalem par un détachement de son armée qui se serait emparé de cette ville.

Ribla, aujourd'hui Kiblé. un pauvre village de quarante et quelques maisons, en Célésyrie. sur la rive droite de l'Oronte, à quelques journées au nord de Damas, dans une grande vallée large d'environ 16 km, abondante en pâturages et que Nébucadnetsar choisit aussi pour son quartier général, après la prise de Jérusalem (25.6-21). De ce point, des routes commodes conduisaient dans toutes les directions.

Hamath ; capitale de tout ce district, encore plus au nord ; aujourd'hui une ville de trente mille habitants. Voir Esaïe 10.9, note.
