La sainte guerre que toute l'Eglise est appelée à faire au mal n'est point opposée à la paix ; elle est au contraire le moyen de l'obtenir.

Mais l'apôtre n'attend la vraie paix que de Celui qui en est la source, et qu'il aime, à cause de cela, à nommer le Seigneur de la paix, ou ailleurs "le Dieu de la paix." (1Thessaloniciens 5.23 ; Hébreux 13.20)

Dans ce texte, l'apôtre prie pour les Thessaloniciens.

Puissions-nous désirer les mêmes bénédictions pour nous-même et nos amis, désirer la paix avec Dieu ! Paul aspirait à cette paix pour les membres de l’assemblée de Thessalonique, pour toujours, en tous points. La paix par tous les moyens, dans chacune de leurs voies ; comme tous avaient pu estimer les bénéfices de la Grâce, ils pouvaient désormais utiliser toutes les méthodes pour se procurer la paix.

Nous n'avons rien besoin de plus pour nous sentir en sécurité et heureux, et nous ne pouvons rien désirer de mieux pour nous-même et nos amis, que la pleine présence de la Grâce de Dieu avec nous tous. Peu importe où nous nous trouvons, si Dieu est présent à nos côtés !

C'est par la Grâce de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ que notre espérance nous conduit vers la paix de Dieu, tout en pouvant jouir spirituellement de Sa présence. Cette Grâce est l’entité qui nous rend joyeux ; même si nous souhaitons qu'Elle inonde le cœur des autres, il en restera toujours assez pour nous-mêmes !
