Christ est la traduction grecque de Messie, Oint, oint de l'Esprit de Dieu. (Actes 4.27 ; 10.38)

Il est probable que dans la signification historique du Psaume cet oint de l'Eternel, contre lequel se révoltaient des ennemis, était le roi d'Israël lui-même. Mais en même temps, le psalmiste considère ce roi comme type du Messie. En effet, ce chant renferme des expressions qui ne sont applicables à aucun monarque terrestre, mais uniquement au vrai Roi d'Israël.
