L'amour, pour Dieu et les frères, s'était si peu refroidi, qu'il produisait dans l'Église de Thyatire une grande activité.

Le mot service (grec diaconie) indique tout travail, toute bienfaisance, surtout en faveur des pauvres. (Actes 11.29,1Corinthiens 16.15 ; 2Corinthiens 9.12) Cet amour, allié à une foi vivante (ce terme signifie aussi, fidélité, versets 10,13), se montrait encore par la patience, ou persévérance, que le Seigneur avait louée également dans l'Église d'Ephèse.

Il y avait même ici un progrès si marqué, que les dernières œuvres étaient plus nombreuses que les œuvres du premier amour : précisément l'inverse de ce qui s'était passé à Ephèse. (verset 4 et 6.) Comparer aussi 2Pierre 2.20.

L'état spirituel de l'Eglise de Thyatire était donc à divers égards très florissant ; et pourtant...Comparer verset 20.
