Colossiens 3.14

Par-dessus toutes ces choses annonce la chose principale, qui doit s'ajouter aux vertus précédentes, sans laquelle celles-ci ne seraient rien : l'amour. (1Corinthiens 13.1-3)

La charité, ou l'amour, mérite abondamment ce beau titre, le lien de la perfection, parce qu'elle étreint dans une vivante unité tous les autres éléments de la perfection, en particulier tous les caractères de la vie chrétienne qui précèdent et qui, sans elle, resteraient épars et inefficaces.

Les autres vertus chrétiennes sont comme les membres d'un corps sans vie, tant qu'elles ne sont pas animées par l'amour. La charité, non seulement les renferme toutes, (Matthieu 22.40 ; Romains 13.10) mais les rattache à Dieu, qui est amour
