Deutéronome 17.1

Tu ne sacrifieras à l'Éternel, ton Dieu, ni boeuf ni mouton qui ait un défaut corporel, quoi que ce soit de mauvais ; car c'est une abomination pour l'Éternel, ton Dieu.

World English Bible You shall not sacrifice to Yahweh your God an ox, or a sheep, in which is a blemish, or anything evil; for that is an abomination to Yahweh your God.

Autre exemple d'un péché qui doit être réprimé avec sévérité. Si le sacrificateur découvre cette faute, elle doit être déférée au juge.

Voir pour les détails de la procédure criminelle Lévitique 22.20-24. Le juge ne doit donc tolérer ni que quelque chose soit adoré à côté de Dieu (16.21-22), ni que Dieu lui-même soit servi d'une manière indigne de lui.

Aucune créature ayant un défaut, ne pouvait être offerte en sacrifice à Dieu. Cela nous rappelle la pureté et la perfection du sacrifice de Christ, et devrait nous inciter à servir Dieu de notre mieux, en Lui consacrant le meilleur de nos capacités et de nos biens, par une conduite sans hypocrisie, qui ne pourrait que Lui déplaire.

Les juifs qui se tournaient vers l'idolâtrie devaient non seulement subir la peine de mort, mais ils devaient être lapidés.

Que ceux qui, aujourd'hui, possèdent encore des idoles dans leur cœur, se rappellent comment Dieu punissait de tels crimes à l'époque !
