Lorsque tu auras achevé de lever toute la dîme de tes produits, la troisième année, l'année de la dîme, tu la donneras au Lévite, à l'étranger, à l'orphelin et à la veuve ; et ils mangeront et se rassasieront, dans tes portes.

12 à 15. La dîme.

La troisième année, il s'agit ici de la seconde dîme mentionnée dans le Deutéronome ; comparez 12.17, note. Cette troisième année, on prélevait, outre la dîme annuelle, la dîme de charité ; c'est pourquoi elle est appelée ici l'année de la dîme ; elle terminait un cycle de trois ans. Au terme de ce cycle, quand l'Israélite aura achevé de prélever les dîmes successives de cette année-là (blé, moût, etc.), il devra examiner devant Dieu si rien n'a manqué à ses offrandes. Le contrôle humain, impossible dans ce domaine, est remplacé par un acte de prière solennelle qu'un coupable hésitera à accomplir.

Comment le rendement de la terre pourrait-il croître, ou que pourrions-nous à la limite en tirer, si Dieu ne nous accordait pas Sa bénédiction ?

Ce passage rappelle le bénéfice d'une véritable relation entre un croyant sincère et Dieu, avec tous les privilèges et les devoirs qui en découlent.

Nous devons être attentifs à la promesse de Grâce que nous a faite Jésus-Christ, notre Seigneur et notre Dieu : nous sommes en effet Son peuple, et nous attendons toute plénitude en Lui !
