28 à 30 Quatrième strophe. Ici l'auteur du cantique reprend lui-même la parole : C'est l'inintelligence des Israélites qui leur vaut tous ces maux ; ils n'ont pas compris que des revers aussi inouïs que ceux qui les ont frappés, ne peuvent absolument pas s'expliquer par des causes naturelles.

Car c'est une nation. La pensée d'aller jusqu'à les détruire s'est présentée à l'esprit de Dieu, à cause de leur aveuglement complet. Il n'y a pas moyen de les faire rentrer en eux-mêmes.

Qui a perdu le sens, littéralement : Egarée quant aux conseils ; quant aux décisions qu'il faudrait prendre dans les heures décisives.
