1. Ville frontière sur la rive N. de l'Arnon (voir ce mot) ; comme la plupart des villes frontières, elle passa souvent d'une domination à l'autre : Amoréens, Moabites, Israélites, Syriens, Babyloniens, etc. Voir par ex. No 32:34, De 2:3-6 3:12,2Ro 10:33, etc., Jer 48:19. Aujourd'hui ruines d' Araïr

2. Ville de Juda, probablement à 20 km. au Sud-E. de Béer-Séba (1Sa 30:28 ; peut-être aussi 1Ch 11:44).

3. Ville inconnue de Gad (Jos 13:25, Jug 11:23).

4. Le texte d'Esa 17:2 est très incertain.
