1. Ville de Moab, identifiée avec la moderne Dîbân, à l'Est de la mer Morte et à 5 km. au Nord de l'Arnon.

Appartenait primitivement au roi de Moab, qui la perdit devant Sinon, roi des Amoréens (No 21:26,30). Les Israélites s'en emparèrent ensuite et le pays fut attribué à Ruben et à Gad (Jos 15:9,17, No 32:3). Les Gadites rebâtirent la ville (No 32:34), qui était aussi appelée Dibon-Gad (No 33:45 et suivant). Les Moabites réoccupèrent toute la région, peut-être à la mort d'Achab (2Ro 3:6). Au temps où Mésa éleva sa fameuse stèle (trouvée à Dibon en 1868, aujourd'hui au musée du Louvre), Dibon lui était soumise (ligne 28) et le roi de Moab, vainqueur d'Israël, se disait même « de Dibon » (2Ro 1:1). Moab et Dibon eurent leur part dans les oracles des grands prophètes (Esa 15:2,9 [où Dimon est sans doute mis pour Dibon) ; Jer 48:18,22).

2. Ville réoccupée après l'exil par les fils de Juda (Ne 11:25), peut-être =Dimona (Jos 15:22) ; non identifiée. A. P.
