Ville que l'historien Josèphe situe au bord de la mer et dominée par le Carmel (Jos 11:2,1Ro 4:11).

Malgré la victoire de Josué sur son roi (Jos 12:23), elle n'échut à Manassé qu'en théorie (Jos 17:11,1Ch 7:29), car ses habitants ne furent pas dépossédés (Jug 1:27). Sous Salomon la région était administrée par Ben-Abinadab (1Ro 4:11). Par la suite elle joua un certain rôle comme alliée de la Phénicie.

Peut-être l'actuelle Tantoura, à 12 km. au Nord de Césarée.
