EKRON

Identifiée ordinairement avec la moderne A kir, à l'Ouest de Guézer. Une des cinq villes philistines (Jos 13:3), attribuée à Juda lors du partage de la Palestine (Jos 15:11-45) ; à la limite de Dan (Jos 19:43). L'arche, prise, fut transportée de Gath à Èkron (1Sa 5:10) où revinrent aussi les cinq princes, après la cérémonie de Beth-Sémès (1Sa 6:16). Les Israélites, même dans les jours de succès, au temps de Samuel (1Sa 7:14) ou de David (1Sa 17:52), s'en approchèrent mais ne l'occupèrent pas. Son dieu, Baal-Zébub, rendait des oracles ; Achazia le fit consulter (2Ro 1:2), ce qui lui valut le blâme du prophète Élie (2Ro 1:6)

Comme toutes les villes philistines, censurée sévèrement par les prophètes. (Am 1:8, Jer 25:20, Za 9:6-7) Occupée par les Assyriens de Sanchérib, qui ravagea le pays de Juda et imposa un tribut à Ézéchias (2Ro 18:13-16), lequel avait emprisonné Padi-1, roi d'Ak-ka-ron (Ékron). Le roi Alexandre Épiphane donna à Jonathan la possession d'Accaron (Ékron) et de tout son territoire (1Ma 10:89). Les ruines de l'ancienne ville ont aujourd'hui presque entièrement disparu.

      3 Depuis le Shichor, qui coule en face de l'Égypte, jusqu'à la frontière d'Ékron, vers le nord ; contrée réputée cananéenne, appartenant aux cinq gouverneurs des Philistins, celui de Gaza, celui d'Asdod, celui d'Askélon, celui de Gath, celui d'Ékron, et les Avviens ;

      Josué 15

      11 De là la frontière sortait du côté septentrional d'Ékron. Puis cette frontière s'étendait vers Shikron, passait par la montagne de Baala, et sortait à Jabnéel ; et la frontière aboutissait à la mer.
      12 Or, la frontière de l'occident était la grande mer et la côte. Telle fut, de tous les côtés, la frontière des enfants de Juda, selon leurs familles.
      13 On donna à Caleb, fils de Jephunné, une portion au milieu des enfants de Juda, selon le commandement de l'Éternel à Josué : savoir la cité d'Arba, père d'Anak. C'est Hébron.
      14 Et Caleb en déposséda les trois fils d'Anak : Shéshaï, Ahiman et Thalmaï, enfants d'Anak.
      15 De là il monta vers les habitants de Débir ; et le nom de Débir était autrefois Kirjath-Sépher.
      16 Et Caleb dit : Je donnerai ma fille Acsa pour femme à celui qui battra Kirjath-Sépher, et la prendra.
      17 Alors Othniel, fils de Kénaz, frère de Caleb, la prit ; et il lui donna pour femme sa fille Acsa.
      18 Or il arriva qu'à son entrée chez Othniel, elle l'incita à demander un champ à son père. Et elle se jeta de dessus son âne, et Caleb lui dit : Qu'as-tu ?
      19 Et elle répondit : Donne-moi un présent ; puisque tu m'as donné une terre du midi, donne-moi aussi des sources d'eaux. Et il lui donna les sources supérieures et les sources inférieures.
      20 Tel fut l'héritage de la tribu des enfants de Juda, selon leurs familles.
      21 Les villes à l'extrémité de la tribu des enfants de Juda, vers la frontière d'Édom, au midi, furent Kabtséel, Éder, Jagur,

      23 Kédès, Hatsor, Jithnan,

      25 Hatsor-Hadattha, Kérijoth-Hetsron, qui est Hatsor,
      26 Amam, Shéma, Molada,
      27 Hatsar-gadda, Heshmon, Beth-Palet,
      28 Hatsar-Shual, Béer-Shéba, Bizjothja,
      29 Baala, Ijjim, Atsem,
      30 Eltholad, Késil, Horma,
      31 Tsiklag, Madmanna, Sansanna,
      32 Lébaoth, Shilhim, Aïn, et Rimmon ; en tout vingt-neuf villes et leurs villages.
