FAUCILLE

Des faucilles en silex ont été trouvées dès le paléolithique (premiers âges de la pierre) ; on a découvert aussi des faucilles en bronze et en fer postérieures, en Palestine comme en Egypte, avec des manches en os ou en bois. La lame peut être plate ou dentelée (H. Vincent, Canaan, p. 388SS ; Macalister, Gezer, II, pp. 32SS, 124SS). Les faucilles palestiniennes récentes sont de ce dernier genre, quelquefois recourbées (fig. 4). La moisson est l'époque où la faucille est mise dans les blés (De 16:9) et le moissonneur est celui qui manie la faucille (Jer 50:16). La loi défendait d'agiter la faucille sur les blés du prochain (De 23:25). La faucille est l'objet de diverses métaphores : moissons spirituelles et jugement. --Voir (Joe 3:13, Mr 4:29, Ap 14:14-19) Agriculture.
