1. Roi cananéen de Hatsor ; s'allia contre ; Israël avec les peuples du N. de Canaan, mais fut défait par Josué et mis à mort (Jos 11:1,11).

2. Autre roi cananéen de Hatsor ; opprimait Israël depuis vingt ans quand son armée, commandée par Sisera, fut défaite par Barak et Débora (Jug 4, Ps 83:10). Si ces deux récits étaient des fragments d'une même source plus détaillée, ils s'appliqueraient au même Jabin.

    • Josué 11

      1 Yabin, roi de Hassor, apprend les victoires de Josué. Alors il envoie des messagers à Yobab, roi de Madon, au roi de Chimron et au roi d’Akechaf.
      11 et tous ses habitants. À cause du SEIGNEUR, il détruit tous ceux qui sont dans la ville. Il ne reste aucun être vivant, et Josué met le feu à Hassor.

      Juges 4

      1 Après la mort d’Éhoud, les Israélites recommencent à faire ce qui est mal aux yeux du SEIGNEUR.
      2 Alors le SEIGNEUR les livre au pouvoir de Yabin, roi de Canaan, qui habite dans la ville de Hassor. Le chef de son armée est Sisra. Il habite à Harocheth-Goïm.
      3 Yabin possède 900 chars de fer et il maltraite les Israélites pendant 20 ans. Alors ceux-ci crient vers le SEIGNEUR.
      4 À ce moment-là, c’est Débora, une prophétesse, femme de Lapidoth, qui dirige Israël.
      5 Elle se tient pour juger sous un palmier, entre Rama et Béthel, dans la région montagneuse d’Éfraïm. Plus tard, on a appelé cet arbre Palmier de Débora. C’est là que les Israélites viennent la voir pour régler leurs affaires.
      6 Un jour, Débora fait appeler Barac, fils d’Abinoam, de Quédech, dans le territoire de Neftali. Elle lui dit de la part du SEIGNEUR, Dieu d’Israël : « Va chercher 10 000 hommes dans les tribus de Neftali et de Zabulon et conduis-les sur le mont Tabor.
      7 J’attirerai vers toi, au torrent de Quichon, Sisra, chef de l’armée de Yabin. Il viendra avec ses chars et ses troupes : alors je le livrerai en ton pouvoir. »
      8 Barac répond à Débora : « Si tu viens avec moi, j’irai, mais si tu ne viens pas, je n’irai pas. »
      9 Elle lui dit : « J’irai donc avec toi. Mais tu ne recevras aucun honneur dans cette bataille. En effet, c’est à une femme que le SEIGNEUR livrera Sisra. » Débora va à Quédech avec Barac.
      10 Celui-ci réunit les tribus de Neftali et de Zabulon : 10 000 hommes partent avec lui, et Débora aussi.
      11 Héber, le Quénite, se trouve près de Quédech. Il s’est séparé des autres Quénites de la famille de Hobab, le beau-frère de Moïse. Il a dressé sa tente à côté du grand arbre sacré de Saananim.
      12 Sisra apprend ceci : Barac, fils d’Abinoam, est monté sur le mont Tabor.
      13 Il rassemble ses 900 chars de fer et tous ses hommes à Harocheth-Goïm. Puis ils partent au torrent du Quichon.
      14 Alors Débora dit à Barac : « Partons ! C’est aujourd’hui que le SEIGNEUR va livrer Sisra en ton pouvoir. Oui, le SEIGNEUR lui-même marche devant toi. » Barac descend du mont Tabor à la tête de ses 10 000 hommes.
      15 Il attaque, et le SEIGNEUR met en fuite devant lui Sisra, tous ses chars et toutes ses troupes. Sisra descend de son char et il fuit à pied.
      16 Barac poursuit les chars et l’armée de Sisra jusqu’à Harocheth-Goïm. Les troupes de Sisra sont écrasées, et personne ne reste en vie.
      17 Sisra fuit en courant jusqu’à la tente de Yaël, femme de Héber le Quénite. En effet, il y a la paix entre Yabin, roi de Hassor et la famille de Héber.
      18 Yaël sort à la rencontre de Sisra. Elle lui dit : « Entre ici, chef, entre, n’aie pas peur ! » Sisra entre dans la tente, et Yaël le cache sous une couverture.
      19 Il lui dit : « S’il te plaît, donne-moi un peu d’eau, j’ai soif. » Yaël ouvre l’outre pleine de lait et elle lui donne à boire. Puis elle remet la couverture sur lui.
      20 Il lui dit encore : « Reste à l’entrée de la tente, et si on vient te demander : “Est-ce qu’il y a quelqu’un ici ?”, tu diras : “Non !” »
      21 Sisra est écrasé de fatigue. Il se met à dormir profondément. Yaël, femme de Héber, prend donc un piquet de la tente, elle prend aussi un marteau et s’approche doucement de Sisra. Elle lui enfonce le piquet dans le crâne, et le piquet s’enfonce dans la terre. Alors Sisra meurt.
      22 Barac, qui poursuivait Sisra, arrive à son tour. Yaël sort à sa rencontre et lui dit : « Viens, je vais te faire voir l’homme que tu cherches. » Barac entre dans la tente et trouve Sisra étendu, mort sur le sol, le piquet de la tente dans le crâne.
      23 Ce jour-là, Dieu met Yabin, roi de Canaan, sous le pouvoir des Israélites.
      24 Pendant longtemps, ils combattent durement contre lui et finalement, ils arrivent à le tuer.

      10 Traite-les comme Yabin, comme Sisra, son chef d’armée, au torrent du Quichon. Traite-les comme les Madianites.

      1 It happened, when Jabin king of Hazor heard of it, that he sent to Jobab king of Madon, to the king of Shimron, to the king of Achshaph,
      11 They struck all the souls who were in it with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them. There was no one left who breathed. He burnt Hazor with fire.

      Juges 4

      1 The children of Israel again did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, when Ehud was dead.
      2 Yahweh sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor; the captain of whose army was Sisera, who lived in Harosheth of the Gentiles.
      3 The children of Israel cried to Yahweh: for he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and twenty years he mightily oppressed the children of Israel.
      4 Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, she judged Israel at that time.
      5 She lived under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim: and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.
      6 She sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedesh Naphtali, and said to him, "Hasn't Yahweh, the God of Israel, commanded, 'Go and draw to Mount Tabor, and take with you ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun?
      7 I will draw to you, to the river Kishon, Sisera, the captain of Jabin's army, with his chariots and his multitude; and I will deliver him into your hand.'"
      8 Barak said to her, "If you will go with me, then I will go; but if you will not go with me, I will not go."
      9 She said, "I will surely go with you: nevertheless, the journey that you take shall not be for your honor; for Yahweh will sell Sisera into the hand of a woman." Deborah arose, and went with Barak to Kedesh.
      10 Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali together to Kedesh; and there went up ten thousand men at his feet: and Deborah went up with him.
      11 Now Heber the Kenite had separated himself from the Kenites, even from the children of Hobab the brother-in-law of Moses, and had pitched his tent as far as the oak in Zaanannim, which is by Kedesh.
      12 They told Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam was gone up to Mount Tabor.
      13 Sisera gathered together all his chariots, even nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people who were with him, from Harosheth of the Gentiles, to the river Kishon.
      14 Deborah said to Barak, "Go; for this is the day in which Yahweh has delivered Sisera into your hand. Hasn't Yahweh gone out before you?" So Barak went down from Mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.
      15 Yahweh confused Sisera, and all his chariots, and all his army, with the edge of the sword before Barak; and Sisera alighted from his chariot, and fled away on his feet.
      16 But Barak pursued after the chariots, and after the army, to Harosheth of the Gentiles: and all the army of Sisera fell by the edge of the sword; there was not a man left.
      17 However Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite; for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.
      18 Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said to him, "Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; don't be afraid." He came in to her into the tent, and she covered him with a rug.
      19 He said to her, "Please give me a little water to drink; for I am thirsty." She opened a bottle of milk, and gave him drink, and covered him.
      20 He said to her, "Stand in the door of the tent, and it shall be, when any man comes and inquires of you, and says, 'Is there any man here?' that you shall say, 'No.'"
      21 Then Jael Heber's wife took a tent peg, and took a hammer in her hand, and went softly to him, and struck the pin into his temples, and it pierced through into the ground; for he was in a deep sleep; so he swooned and died.
      22 Behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him, and said to him, "Come, and I will show you the man whom you seek." He came to her; and behold, Sisera lay dead, and the tent peg was in his temples.
      23 So God subdued on that day Jabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel.
      24 The hand of the children of Israel prevailed more and more against Jabin the king of Canaan, until they had destroyed Jabin king of Canaan.
