1. Descendant de Manassé, auquel est attribuée la conquête des Bourgs de Jaïr sur les Amoréens (No 32:41, De 3:14, Jos 13:30,1Ro 4:13,1Ch 2:22 et suivant) ; ce dernier texte donne sa descendance mixte, de Juda et de Manassé.

2. Galaadite, juge en Israël pendant vingt-deux ans, aux trente fils duquel est attribuée la possession des mêmes Bourgs de Jaïr (Jug 10:3-5) ; peut-être descendant du précédent, à moins qu'il ne s'agisse du même dans les traditions assez confuses sur les villages de ce nom (voir Bourgs de Jaïr).

3. Père d'Ira ; probablement le même que le précédent (2Sa 20:26).

4. Père de Mardochée (Est 2:5, AddEst 1:1).

5. (Nom hébreu différent =Il excite). Père d'Elchanan (1Ch 20:5) =Jaaré-Oréguim (voir ce mot) de 2Sa 21:19.

6. Jaïr ou Jaïre est aussi la transcription, dans les versions catholiques, du nom de Jaïrus (voir ce mot).
