JOACHAZ

1. Fils et successeur du roi Jéhu en Israël (2Ro 10:35 13:1,9 14:1). Pendant son règne de dix-sept ans, Israël fut opprimé par les Syriens de Damas et en fut providentiellement délivré, probablement grâce à la menace assyrienne qui obligea les Syriens à faire front vers le Nord. Joachaz, à sa mort, laissa son peuple fort affaibli.

2. Fils et successeur de Josias en Juda (2Ro 23:30-34 2Ch 36:1-4), probablement =Sallum (Jer 22:10-12,1Ch 3:15). Il fut élevé au trône par le choix populaire ; mais le pharaon Néco, qui avait conquis le pays de Juda par sa victoire de Méguiddo sur Josias (608 av. J. -C), le déposa en faveur de son frère Jéhojakim, l'emprisonna à Ribla, puis l'emmena en Egypte où il mourut.

3. Nom d'Achazia, roi de Juda (2Ch 21:17 25:23).

4. Père de l'archiviste Joah (2Ch 34:8).
