Roi d'Élam, mentionné dans Ge 14. Ce nom n'a pu être retrouvé jusqu'à présent dans les inscriptions ; il est bien d'origine élamite : Koudour-Lagamar =serviteur de Lagamar (dieu élamite) ; cf. la transcription des LXX : Kodol-logomor. A la tête d'une coalition de rois orientaux, dont Amraphel et Arjoc (voir ces mots) --peut-être Hammourabi roi de la première dynastie de Babylone, et Rim-Sin roi de Larsa en Babylonie--Kedor-Laomer fit campagne contre ses vassaux palestiniens révoltés ; il remporta une victoire complète sur cinq rois dans la vallée de Siddim (=emplacement de la mer Morte) et pilla Sodome et Gomorrhe. Il se retirait, emmenant Lot prisonnier, quand Abram, alors en résidence près de Mamré, le poursuivit avec une poignée d'hommes, rejoignit l'armée des rois à Dan, les battit, leur reprit leur butin et leur prisonnier, et les talonna dans leur fuite jusqu'au Nord de Damas.

Ce chap. 14 a un caractère tout à fait à part. On ne peut l'attribuer à aucune des sources connues du Pent. ; Abram y est présenté comme un inconnu et appelé l'Hébreu : expression très rare, qui pourrait trahir un rédacteur étranger, ou tout au moins dont les horizons dépassaient les limites d'Israël. Abram paraît aussi en valeureux guerrier plutôt qu'en nomade propriétaire de troupeaux. Le récit a quelques invraisemblances historiques : la mer Morte n'aurait pas existé du temps d'Abram ; un anachronisme donne à la ville de Laïs le nom de Dan (verset 14), qu'elle ne portera qu'à l'installation des tribus israélites. (cf. Jug 18:27-29) La langue du passage est tardive. En résumé, les faits relatifs à Kedor-Laomer ont dû être insérés après coup pour compléter l'histoire d'Abraham et de Lot. Le rédacteur, sans doute en contact avec la civilisation perse en Babylonie (Élam désignait la Perse pour les Palestiniens), aura pu s'appuyer sur des données historiques, car sous Hammourabi l'influence babylonienne fut grande en Palestine, et au début de son règne les princes élamites jouèrent en Babylonie un rôle important (voir Assyrie et Babylonie).

  1 Et il arriva, aux jours d'Amraphel, roi de Shinhar, d'Arioc, roi d'Ellasar, de Kedor-Laomer, roi d'Élam, et de Tidhal, roi des nations,
  
  2 qu'ils firent la guerre contre Béra, roi de Sodome, et contre Birsha, roi de Gomorrhe, contre Shineab, roi d'Adma, et contre Shéméber, roi de Tseboïm, et contre le roi de Béla, qui est Tsoar.
  
  3 Tous ceux-ci se joignirent dans la vallée de Siddim, qui est la mer Salée.
  
  4 Douze ans, ils avaient été asservis à Kedor-Laomer, mais, la treizième année, ils se révoltèrent.
  
  5 Et la quatorzième année, Kedor-Laomer vint, et les rois qui étaient avec lui, et il frappèrent les Rephaïm à Ashteroth-Karnaïm, et les Zuzim à Ham, et les Émim à Shavé-Kiriathaïm,
  
  6 et les Horiens dans leur montagne de Séhir, jusqu'à El-Paran, qui est près du désert.
  
  7 Et ils retournèrent, et vinrent à En-Mishpath, qui est Kadès, et ils frappèrent toute la contrée des Amalékites, et aussi les Amoréens qui habitaient à Hatsatson-Thamar.
  
  8 Et le roi de Sodome, et le roi de Gomorrhe, et le roi d'Adma, et le roi de Tseboïm, et le roi de Béla, qui est Tsoar, sortirent et se rangèrent en bataille contre eux dans la vallée de Siddim,
  
  9 contre Kedor-Laomer, roi d'Élam, et Tidhal, roi des nations, et Amraphel, roi de Shinhar, et Arioc, roi d'Ellasar : quatre rois contre cinq.
  
  10 Et la vallée de Siddim était pleine de puits de bitume : et les rois de Sodome et de Gomorrhe s'enfuirent, et y tombèrent ; et ceux qui restèrent s'enfuirent dans la montagne.
  
  11 Et ils prirent tous les biens de Sodome et de Gomorrhe, et tous leurs vivres, et ils s'en allèrent.
  
  12 Ils prirent aussi Lot, fils du frère d'Abram, et son bien, et ils s'en allèrent ; car Lot habitait dans Sodome.
  
  13 Et un homme, qui était échappé, vint et le rapporta à Abram, l'Hébreu, qui demeurait auprès des chênes de Mamré, l'Amoréen, frère d'Eshcol et frère d'Aner : ceux-ci étaient alliés d'Abram.
  
  14 Et Abram apprit que son frère avait été emmené captif, et il mit en campagne ses hommes exercés, trois cent dix-huit hommes, nés dans sa maison, et poursuivit les rois jusqu'à Dan ;
  
  15 et il divisa sa troupe, et se jeta sur eux de nuit, lui et ses serviteurs, et il les frappa, et les poursuivit jusqu'à Hoba, qui est à la gauche de Damas.
  
  16 Et il ramena tout le bien, et ramena aussi Lot, son frère, et son bien, et aussi les femmes et le peuple.
  
  17 Et comme il s'en revenait après avoir frappé Kédor-Laomer et les rois qui étaient avec lui, le roi de Sodome sortit à sa rencontre dans la vallée de Shavé, qui est la vallée du roi.
  
  18 Et Melchisédec, roi de Salem, fit apporter du pain et du vin, (or il était sacrificateur du Dieu Très-haut) ;
  
  19 et il le bénit, et dit : Béni soit Abram de par le Dieu Très-haut, possesseur des cieux et de la terre !
  
  20 Et béni soit le Dieu Très-haut, qui a livré tes ennemis entre tes mains ! Et Abram lui donna la dîme de tout.
  
  21 Et le roi de Sodome dit à Abram : Donne-moi les personnes, et prends les biens pour toi.
  
  22 Et Abram dit au roi de Sodome : J'ai levé ma main vers l'Éternel, le Dieu Très-haut, possesseur des cieux et de la terre :
  
  23 si, depuis un fil jusqu'à une courroie de sandale, oui, si, de tout ce qui est à toi, je prends quoi que ce soit,... afin que tu ne dises pas :
  
  24 Moi, j'ai enrichi Abram !... sauf seulement ce qu'ont mangé les jeunes gens, et la part des hommes qui sont allés avec moi, Aner, Eshcol et Mamré : eux, ils prendront leur part.

  27 Et eux, prirent ce que Michée avait fait, et le sacrificateur qu'il avait, et vinrent à Laïs, vers un peuple tranquille et confiant, et ils les frappèrent par le tranchant de l'épée, et brûlèrent au feu leur ville.
  
  28 Et il n'y avait personne qui la délivrât ; car elle était loin de Sidon, et ils n'avaient commerce avec personne : elle était dans la vallée qui est vers Beth-Rehob. Et ils bâtirent la ville, et y habitèrent.
  
  29 Et ils appelèrent le nom de la ville : Dan, d'après le nom de Dan, leur père, qui était né à Israël ; mais, au commencement, le nom de la ville était Laïs.

  8 וַיֵּצֵ֨א מֶֽלֶךְ־סְדֹ֜ם וּמֶ֣לֶךְ עֲמֹרָ֗ה וּמֶ֤לֶךְ אַדְמָה֙ וּמֶ֣לֶךְ *צביים **צְבוֹיִ֔ם וּמֶ֥לֶךְ בֶּ֖לַע הִוא־צֹ֑עַר וַיַּֽעַרְכ֤וּ אִתָּם֙ מִלְחָמָ֔ה בְּעֵ֖מֶק הַשִּׂדִּֽים׃

  10 וְעֵ֣מֶק הַשִׂדִּ֗ים בֶּֽאֱרֹ֤ת בֶּאֱרֹת֙ חֵמָ֔ר וַיָּנֻ֛סוּ מֶֽלֶךְ־סְדֹ֥ם וַעֲמֹרָ֖ה וַיִּפְּלוּ־שָׁ֑מָּה וְהַנִּשְׁאָרִ֖ים הֶ֥רָה נָּֽסוּ׃
  
  11 וַ֠יִּקְחוּ אֶת־כָּל־רְכֻ֨שׁ סְדֹ֧ם וַעֲמֹרָ֛ה וְאֶת־כָּל־אָכְלָ֖ם וַיֵּלֵֽכוּ׃
  
  12 וַיִּקְח֨וּ אֶת־ל֧וֹט וְאֶת־רְכֻשׁ֛וֹ בֶּן־אֲחִ֥י אַבְרָ֖ם וַיֵּלֵ֑כוּ וְה֥וּא יֹשֵׁ֖ב בִּסְדֹֽם׃

  15 וַיֵּחָלֵ֨ק עֲלֵיהֶ֧ם ׀ לַ֛יְלָה ה֥וּא וַעֲבָדָ֖יו וַיַּכֵּ֑ם וַֽיִּרְדְּפֵם֙ עַד־חוֹבָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר מִשְּׂמֹ֖אל לְדַמָּֽשֶׂק׃
  
  16 וַיָּ֕שֶׁב אֵ֖ת כָּל־הָרְכֻ֑שׁ וְגַם֩ אֶת־ל֨וֹט אָחִ֤יו וּרְכֻשׁוֹ֙ הֵשִׁ֔יב וְגַ֥ם אֶת־הַנָּשִׁ֖ים וְאֶת־הָעָֽם׃
  
  17 וַיֵּצֵ֣א מֶֽלֶךְ־סְדֹם֮ לִקְרָאתוֹ֒ אַחֲרֵ֣י שׁוּב֗וֹ מֵֽהַכּוֹת֙ אֶת־כְּדָרלָעֹ֔מֶר וְאֶת־הַמְּלָכִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר אִתּ֑וֹ אֶל־עֵ֣מֶק שָׁוֵ֔ה ה֖וּא עֵ֥מֶק הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃
  
  18 וּמַלְכִּי־צֶ֙דֶק֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ שָׁלֵ֔ם הוֹצִ֖יא לֶ֣חֶם וָיָ֑יִן וְה֥וּא כֹהֵ֖ן לְאֵ֥ל עֶלְיֽוֹן׃
  
  19 וַֽיְבָרְכֵ֖הוּ וַיֹּאמַ֑ר בָּר֤וּךְ אַבְרָם֙ לְאֵ֣ל עֶלְי֔וֹן קֹנֵ֖ה שָׁמַ֥יִם וָאָֽרֶץ׃
  
  20 וּבָרוּךְ֙ אֵ֣ל עֶלְי֔וֹן אֲשֶׁר־מִגֵּ֥ן צָרֶ֖יךָ בְּיָדֶ֑ךָ וַיִּתֶּן־ל֥וֹ מַעֲשֵׂ֖ר מִכֹּֽל׃

  1 It happened in the days of Amraphel, king of Shinar, Arioch, king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer, king of Elam, and Tidal, king of Goiim,
  
  2 that they made war with Bera, king of Sodom, and with Birsha, king of Gomorrah, Shinab, king of Admah, and Shemeber, king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (the same is Zoar).
  
  3 All these joined together in the valley of Siddim (the same is the Salt Sea).
  
  4 Twelve years they served Chedorlaomer, and in the thirteenth year, they rebelled.
  
  5 In the fourteenth year Chedorlaomer came, and the kings who were with him, and struck the Rephaim in Ashteroth Karnaim, and the Zuzim in Ham, and the Emim in Shaveh Kiriathaim,
  
  6 and the Horites in their Mount Seir, to Elparan, which is by the wilderness.
  
  7 They returned, and came to En Mishpat (the same is Kadesh), and struck all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites, that lived in Hazazon Tamar.
  
  8 The king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (the same is Zoar) went out; and they set the battle in array against them in the valley of Siddim;
  
  9 against Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goiim, and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar; four kings against the five.
  
  10 Now the valley of Siddim was full of tar pits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and they fell there, and those who remained fled to the hills.
  
  11 They took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their food, and went their way.
  
  12 They took Lot, Abram's brother's son, who lived in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.
  
  13 One who had escaped came and told Abram, the Hebrew. Now he lived by the oaks of Mamre, the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner; and these were allies of Abram.
  
  14 When Abram heard that his relative was taken captive, he led out his trained men, born in his house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued as far as Dan.
  
  15 He divided himself against them by night, he and his servants, and struck them, and pursued them to Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus.
  
  16 He brought back all the goods, and also brought back his relative, Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.
  
  17 The king of Sodom went out to meet him, after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, at the valley of Shaveh (that is, the King's Valley).
  
  18 Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine: and he was priest of God Most High.
  
  19 He blessed him, and said, "Blessed be Abram of God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth:
  
  20 and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand." Abram gave him a tenth of all.
  
  21 The king of Sodom said to Abram, "Give me the people, and take the goods to yourself."
  
  22 Abram said to the king of Sodom, "I have lifted up my hand to Yahweh, God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth,
  
  23 that I will not take a thread nor a sandal strap nor anything that is yours, lest you should say, 'I have made Abram rich.'
  
  24 I will accept nothing from you except that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men who went with me: Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre. Let them take their portion."

  27 They took that which Micah had made, and the priest whom he had, and came to Laish, to a people quiet and secure, and struck them with the edge of the sword; and they burnt the city with fire.
  
  28 There was no deliverer, because it was far from Sidon, and they had no dealings with any man; and it was in the valley that lies by Beth Rehob. They built the city, and lived therein.
  
  29 They called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born to Israel: however the name of the city was Laish at the first.
