Sous le climat de l'Orient (voir Palestine, V), la végétation printanière est desséchée de bonne heure par le soleil et le vent brûlant (Ps 90:6, Esa 37:27 40:7, Eze 17:10, Mt 13:6, Jn 15:6,1Pi 1:24 etc.), et l'insuffisance de pluie (voir ce mot) provoque bientôt le double fléau de la sécheresse (De 28:22, Jer 14:1, Ag 1:11, Sir 35:26, etc.) et de la famine (voir ce mot).
