TAMBOURIN

Petit tambour qu'on tenait de la main gauche et sur lequel on frappait avec les doigts ou la paume de la main droite.

Les femmes s'en servaient souvent pour rythmer leurs propres danses (Jer 31:1), et il accompagnait généralement des instruments de musique mélodiques : flûte, harpe, etc (Ge 31:27,1Sa 10:5, Esa 24:8).

Son emploi marquait surtout la célébration des fêtes (Eze 28:13, Jug 3:7, ApocrEsd 5:2), les noces (1Ma 9:39), les proclamations de victoires (Jug 11:34,1Sa 18:6, Esa 30:32) ; il pouvait participer aux désordres et aux excès (Job 21:12, Esa 5:12), mais aussi aux actions de grâces des cérémonies religieuses en l'honneur de Dieu (Ex 15:20,2Sa 6:5, Ps 68:26 81:3, Jug 16:2, etc.).
