TSADOK

1. Prêtre, sous le règne de David, fondateur d'une classe sacerdotale éminente, les Tsadokites. Après l'exil à Babylone, cette caste prit soin de bien marquer la glorieuse descendance de son fondateur, par Éléazar, fils d'Aaron, le grand ancêtre (1Ch 6:4,15,50,53, Esd 7:1-5). Il partage les fonctions sacerdotales avec Ahimélec, fils d'Abiathar, d'après 2Sa 8:17, ou, plus justement, avec Abiathar lui-même, d'après 2Sa 15:24-36 et 1Ro 4:4. Ce dernier occupait même, vraisemblablement, le premier rang ; mais, ayant pris part à la conspiration d'Adonija, au temps de la vieillesse de David (1Ro 1:7), il fut destitué par Salomon (1Ro 2:26,35) et remplacé par Tsadok (1Ro 2:35) demeuré fidèle au vieux roi (1Ro 1:8,26,32,34 cf. 1Ch 29:22). C'est Tsadok qui oignit le roi Salomon (1Ro 1:39). Dès lors et jusqu'à l'époque des Macchabées les grands-prêtres furent Tsadokites. Ezéchiel, dans sa vision de la Jérusalem restaurée, voyait en eux les seuls prêtres légitimes (Eze 40:46 43:19 44:15 48:11).

2. Un grand-prêtre (Esd 7:2 ; cf. Ne 11:11) ; peut-être le même que 1, à moins qu'il ne s'agisse d'un autre Tsadok, descendant du premier, désigné dans 1Ch 6:12.

3. Guerrier jeune et vaillant, au temps de David (1Ch 12:28).

4. Grand-père du roi de Juda Jotham (2Ro 15:33,2Ch 27:1).

5. Fils de Baana (Esd 2:2, Ne 5:7), qui participa à la reconstruction des murs de Jérusalem (Ne 3:4).

6. Un autre reconstructeur des murs, fils d'Immer (Ne 3:29).

7. Scribe, nommé intendant par Néhémie (Ne 13:13).

8. Un des chefs du peuple qui apposèrent leur sceau sur le pacte d'alliance (Ne 10:21).

9. Ancêtre de Joseph, l'époux de Marie (Mt 1:14). C. L.

      33 David said to him, "If you pass on with me, then you will be a burden to me;
      34 but if you return to the city, and tell Absalom, 'I will be your servant, O king. As I have been your father's servant in time past, so will I now be your servant; then will you defeat for me the counsel of Ahithophel.'
      35 Don't you have Zadok and Abiathar the priests there with you? Therefore it shall be, that whatever thing you shall hear out of the king's house, you shall tell it to Zadok and Abiathar the priests.

      28 Pour ma part, je vais attendre dans la région désertique proche des gués du Jourdain, jusqu’à ce que je reçoive des nouvelles de vous. »
      29 Sadoc et Abiatar ramenèrent donc le coffre sacré à Jérusalem et y demeurèrent.
      30 David gravissait le mont des Oliviers tout en pleurant. Il s’était voilé le visage et marchait nu-pieds. Tous ceux qui montaient avec lui avaient aussi le visage voilé et pleuraient.
      31 On informa David qu’Ahitofel se trouvait parmi les conspirateurs, aux côtés d’Absalom ; alors David s’écria : « Seigneur, je t’en prie, rends stupides les conseils d’Ahitofel ! »
      32 Or, au moment où David atteignait le sommet de la colline, là où l’on adore Dieu, il vit venir à sa rencontre son conseiller personnel Houchaï, l’Arkite, la tunique déchirée et de la poussière sur la tête.
      33 David lui dit : « Ne viens pas avec moi, tu serais une charge pour moi.
      34 Retourne plutôt en ville et va dire à Absalom : “Je me mets au service de Sa Majesté le roi. Précédemment j’ai servi son père, mais maintenant c’est lui-même que je veux servir.” De cette manière, tu pourras m’aider en faisant obstacle aux conseils d’Ahitofel.
      35 De plus, tu auras l’appui des prêtres Sadoc et Abiatar. Tu les informeras de tout ce que tu apprendras dans le palais royal.
      36 Ahimaas, fils de Sadoc, et Yonatan, fils d’Abiatar, sont tous deux avec eux ; vous les enverrez m’apporter toutes les nouvelles que vous aurez apprises. »

Esdras était un lettré, grand connaisseur de la loi que le Seigneur, Dieu d’Israël, avait communiquée à Moïse. Le Seigneur son Dieu lui assurait un tel prestige que l’empereur lui avait accordé tout ce qu’il demandait.

      4 A côté d’eux travaillaient Merémoth, fils d’Ouria et petit-fils de Haccos, puis Mechoullam, fils de Bérékia et petit-fils de Mechézabel, puis Sadoc, fils de Baana.
      29 Plus loin, le travail fut fait par Sadoc, fils d’Immer, également en face de sa maison, par Chemaya, fils de Chekania et gardien de la porte de l’Est,

      11 Cette région reviendra aux prêtres consacrés, descendants de Sadoc. Ils ont accompli fidèlement le service du Seigneur et, contrairement aux lévites, ils n’ont pas abandonné Dieu lorsque les Israélites se détournaient de lui.
