Région d'étendue incertaine parcourue par les Israélites vers la fin de leur voyage au désert. No 13:21 (généralement attribué à P) fait supposer qu'elle était située à l'extrémité S. de la région d'où partirent les douze espions. No 34 et Jos 15 montrent que Tsin constituait une partie de la frontière méridionale de Juda dans la direction de l'est. Kadès (voir ce mot), dont l'emplacement est à peu près sûrement identifié, se trouvait dans les limites du désert de Tsin (cf. No 20:1 27:14 et De 32:51).

Certains savants identifient Tsin avec le Sin (voir ce mot) mentionné dans le récit du voyage des Israélites vers le Sinaï (Ex 16:1 17:1, No 33:11) ; cette hypothèse ne s'impose pas.

  5 D'Atsmon la frontière tournera vers le torrent d'Égypte, et aboutira à la mer.
  
  6 Et quant à la frontière d'Occident, vous aurez la grande mer pour limite ; ce sera votre frontière occidentale.
  
  7 Et voici quelle sera votre frontière du Nord : depuis la grande mer vous marquerez pour vos limites la montagne de Hor ;
  
  8 Puis de la montagne de Hor, vous marquerez pour vos limites l'entrée de Hamath, et la frontière aboutira à Tsedad.
  
  9 Et cette frontière sortira vers Ziphron, et aboutira à Hatsar-Enan ; telle sera votre frontière du Nord.
  
  10 Puis vous prendrez pour vos frontières, vers l'Orient, de Hatsar-Enan à Shepham.
  
  11 Et la frontière descendra de Shepham à Ribla, à l'Orient d'Aïn ; puis cette frontière descendra et atteindra la côte de la mer de Kinnéreth, vers l'Orient ;
  
  12 Enfin la frontière descendra vers le Jourdain, et aboutira à la mer Salée. Tel sera le pays que vous aurez, selon ses frontières tout autour.
  
  13 Et Moïse commanda aux enfants d'Israël, et leur dit : C'est là le pays que vous partagerez par le sort, et que l'Éternel a commandé de donner aux neuf tribus et à la moitié d'une tribu.
  
  14 Car la tribu des descendants de Ruben, selon les maisons de leurs pères, et la tribu des descendants de Gad, selon les maisons de leurs pères, et la demi-tribu de Manassé ont reçu leur héritage.
  
  15 Ces deux tribus et la demi-tribu ont reçu leur héritage de ce côté-ci du Jourdain de Jérico, à l'Orient, vers le Levant.
  
  16 L'Éternel parla encore à Moïse, en disant :
  
  17 Voici les noms des hommes qui vous partageront le pays : Éléazar, le sacrificateur, et Josué, fils de Nun.
  
  18 Vous prendrez aussi un chef de chaque tribu, pour partager le pays.
  
  19 Voici les noms de ces hommes : Pour la tribu de Juda, Caleb, fils de Jéphunné ;
  
  20 Pour la tribu des enfants de Siméon, Samuël, fils d'Ammihud ;
  
  21 Pour la tribu des enfants de Benjamin, Élidad, fils de Kislon ;
  
  22 Pour la tribu des enfants de Dan, un chef, Buki, fils de Jogli ;
  
  23 Pour les enfants de Joseph : pour la tribu des enfants de Manassé, un chef, Hanniel, fils d'Éphod ;

  51 Parce que vous avez péché contre moi, au milieu des enfants d'Israël, aux eaux de la contestation de Kadès, au désert de Tsin ; parce que vous ne m'avez point sanctifié au milieu des enfants d'Israël.

  1 La part échue par le sort à la tribu des enfants de Juda, selon leurs familles, fut à la frontière d'Édom, au désert de Tsin, vers le midi, à l'extrémité méridionale.
  
  2 Leur frontière méridionale partait de l'extrémité de la mer Salée, depuis le bras qui regarde vers le midi ;
  
  3 Et elle sortait au midi de la montée d'Akrabbim, passait vers Tsin, montait au midi de Kadès-Barnéa, passait à Hetsron, montait vers Addar, tournait vers Karkaa,
  
  4 Passait vers Atsmon, sortait au torrent d'Égypte ; et la frontière aboutissait à la mer. Ce sera là, dit Josué, votre frontière du côté du midi.
  
  5 Et la frontière vers l'orient était la mer Salée, jusqu'à l'embouchure du Jourdain ; et la frontière de la région du nord partait du bras de mer qui est à l'embouchure du Jourdain.
  
  6 Et la frontière montait à Beth-Hogla, et passait au nord de Beth-Araba. Et la frontière montait à la pierre de Bohan, fils de Ruben.
  
  7 Puis la frontière montait vers Débir, du côté de la vallée d'Acor, et vers le nord, se dirigeant vers Guilgal, qui est vis-à-vis de la montée d'Adummim, au midi du torrent ; la frontière passait ensuite près des eaux d'En-Shémèsh et aboutissait à En-Roguel.
  
  8 De là la frontière montait par la vallée du fils de Hinnom, vers le côté méridional de Jébus, qui est Jérusalem. Ensuite la frontière s'élevait au sommet de la montagne qui est en face de la vallée de Hinnom, vers l'occident, et à l'extrémité de la vallée des Réphaïm, au nord.
  
  9 Cette frontière s'étendait du sommet de la montagne vers la source des eaux de Nephthoach, et sortait vers les villes de la montagne d'Éphron ; puis la frontière s'étendait à Baala, qui est Kirjath-Jéarim.
  
  10 La frontière tournait ensuite de Baala à l'occident vers la montagne de Séir, et passait, vers le nord, à côté de la montagne de Jéarim qui est Késalon ; puis elle descendait à Beth-Shémesh, et passait à Thimna.
  
  11 De là la frontière sortait du côté septentrional d'Ékron. Puis cette frontière s'étendait vers Shikron, passait par la montagne de Baala, et sortait à Jabnéel ; et la frontière aboutissait à la mer.
  
  12 Or, la frontière de l'occident était la grande mer et la côte. Telle fut, de tous les côtés, la frontière des enfants de Juda, selon leurs familles.
  
  13 On donna à Caleb, fils de Jephunné, une portion au milieu des enfants de Juda, selon le commandement de l'Éternel à Josué : savoir la cité d'Arba, père d'Anak. C'est Hébron.
  
  14 Et Caleb en déposséda les trois fils d'Anak : Shéshaï, Ahiman et Thalmaï, enfants d'Anak.
  
  15 De là il monta vers les habitants de Débir ; et le nom de Débir était autrefois Kirjath-Sépher.
  
  16 Et Caleb dit : Je donnerai ma fille Acsa pour femme à celui qui battra Kirjath-Sépher, et la prendra.
  
  17 Alors Othniel, fils de Kénaz, frère de Caleb, la prit ; et il lui donna pour femme sa fille Acsa.
  
  18 Or il arriva qu'à son entrée chez Othniel, elle l'incita à demander un champ à son père. Et elle se jeta de dessus son âne, et Caleb lui dit : Qu'as-tu ?
  
  19 Et elle répondit : Donne-moi un présent ; puisque tu m'as donné une terre du midi, donne-moi aussi des sources d'eaux. Et il lui donna les sources supérieures et les sources inférieures.
  
  20 Tel fut l'héritage de la tribu des enfants de Juda, selon leurs familles.
  
  21 Les villes à l'extrémité de la tribu des enfants de Juda, vers la frontière d'Édom, au midi, furent Kabtséel, Éder, Jagur,
  
  22 Kina, Dimona, Adéada,
  
  23 Kédès, Hatsor, Jithnan,
  
  24 Ziph, Télem, Béaloth,
  
  25 Hatsor-Hadattha, Kérijoth-Hetsron, qui est Hatsor,
  
  26 Amam, Shéma, Molada,
  
  27 Hatsar-gadda, Heshmon, Beth-Palet,
  
  28 Hatsar-Shual, Béer-Shéba, Bizjothja,
  
  29 Baala, Ijjim, Atsem,

  9 and the border shall go forth to Ziphron, and the goings out of it shall be at Hazar Enan: this shall be your north border.
  
  10 "'You shall mark out your east border from Hazar Enan to Shepham;
  
  11 and the border shall go down from Shepham to Riblah, on the east side of Ain; and the border shall go down, and shall reach to the side of the sea of Chinnereth eastward;
  
  12 and the border shall go down to the Jordan, and the goings out of it shall be at the Salt Sea. This shall be your land according to its borders around it.'"
  
  13 Moses commanded the children of Israel, saying, "This is the land which you shall inherit by lot, which Yahweh has commanded to give to the nine tribes, and to the half-tribe;
  
  14 for the tribe of the children of Reuben according to their fathers' houses, and the tribe of the children of Gad according to their fathers' houses, have received, and the half-tribe of Manasseh have received, their inheritance:
  
  15 the two tribes and the half-tribe have received their inheritance beyond the Jordan at Jericho eastward, toward the sunrise."
  
  16 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
  
  17 "These are the names of the men who shall divide the land to you for inheritance: Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun.
  
  18 You shall take one prince of every tribe, to divide the land for inheritance.
  
  19 These are the names of the men: Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.
  
  20 Of the tribe of the children of Simeon, Shemuel the son of Ammihud.
  
  21 Of the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad the son of Chislon.
  
  22 Of the tribe of the children of Dan a prince, Bukki the son of Jogli.
  
  23 Of the children of Joseph: of the tribe of the children of Manasseh a prince, Hanniel the son of Ephod.

  1 The lot for the tribe of the children of Judah according to their families was to the border of Edom, even to the wilderness of Zin southward, at the uttermost part of the south.
  
  2 Their south border was from the uttermost part of the Salt Sea, from the bay that looks southward;
  
  3 and it went out southward of the ascent of Akrabbim, and passed along to Zin, and went up by the south of Kadesh Barnea, and passed along by Hezron, went up to Addar, and turned about to Karka;
  
  4 and it passed along to Azmon, went out at the brook of Egypt; and the border ended at the sea. This shall be your south border.
  
  5 The east border was the Salt Sea, even to the end of the Jordan. The border of the north quarter was from the bay of the sea at the end of the Jordan.
  
  6 The border went up to Beth Hoglah, and passed along by the north of Beth Arabah; and the border went up to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben.
  
  7 The border went up to Debir from the valley of Achor, and so northward, looking toward Gilgal, that is over against the ascent of Adummim, which is on the south side of the river. The border passed along to the waters of En Shemesh, and ended at En Rogel.
  
  8 The border went up by the valley of the son of Hinnom to the side of the Jebusite southward (the same is Jerusalem); and the border went up to the top of the mountain that lies before the valley of Hinnom westward, which is at the farthest part of the valley of Rephaim northward.
  
  9 The border extended from the top of the mountain to the spring of the waters of Nephtoah, and went out to the cities of Mount Ephron; and the border extended to Baalah (the same is Kiriath Jearim);
  
  10 and the border turned about from Baalah westward to Mount Seir, and passed along to the side of Mount Jearim on the north (the same is Chesalon), and went down to Beth Shemesh, and passed along by Timnah;
  
  11 and the border went out to the side of Ekron northward; and the border extended to Shikkeron, and passed along to Mount Baalah, and went out at Jabneel; and the goings out of the border were at the sea.
  
  12 The west border was to the shore of the great sea. This is the border of the children of Judah according to their families.
  
  13 To Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a portion among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of Yahweh to Joshua, even Kiriath Arba, named after the father of Anak (the same is Hebron).
  
  14 Caleb drove out the three sons of Anak: Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak.
  
  15 He went up against the inhabitants of Debir: now the name of Debir before was Kiriath Sepher.
  
  16 Caleb said, "He who strikes Kiriath Sepher, and takes it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter as wife."
  
  17 Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter as wife.
  
  18 It happened, when she came, that she had him ask her father fore a field. She got off of her donkey, and Caleb said, "What do you want?"
  
  19 She said, "Give me a blessing. Because you have set me in the land of the South, give me also springs of water." He gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.
  
  20 This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Judah according to their families.
  
  21 The farthest cities of the tribe of the children of Judah toward the border of Edom in the South were Kabzeel, Eder, Jagur,

  63 As for the Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah couldn't drive them out; but the Jebusites live with the children of Judah at Jerusalem to this day.
