World English Bible then they drew near to Zerubbabel, and to the heads of fathers' households, and said to them, "Let us build with you; for we seek your God, as you do; and we sacrifice to him since the days of Esar Haddon king of Assyria, who brought us up here."

Car comme vous... : Nous voulons nous rapprocher de vous, nous conformer à votre religion et invoquer votre Dieu.

Bien que nous..., littéralement : Et nous. nous ne lui avons pas offert de sacrifices. Ils font remarquer aux Juifs qu'ils ne sont pas de ceux qui avaient mélangé le culte de l'Eternel au culte des faux dieux (2Rois 17.33). Ils n'ont été qu'idolâtres et n'ont cloché que d'un côté (1Rois 18.21) Tel est le sens le plus probable de ce passage difficile et auquel de cette façon il n'y a rien à changer. Plusieurs, changeant une lettre dans le mot qui signifie pas. lui font signifier à lui : Et c'est à lui que nous offrons des sacrifices depuis... Mais c'eût été là une doublement malencontreuse recommandation : sans temple et à côté d'un culte idolâtre tout sacrifice à l'Eternel est une abomination.
