Job 23.13

וְה֣וּא בְ֭אֶחָד וּמִ֣י יְשִׁיבֶ֑נּוּ וְנַפְשׁ֖וֹ אִוְּתָ֣ה וַיָּֽעַשׂ׃
Mais sa résolution est arrêtée ; qui s'y opposera ? Ce que son âme désire, il l'exécute.

Job considérait que toutes ses épreuves étaient envoyées par Dieu, rien ne pouvant être attribué au hasard ; il se posait, malgré tout, cette question : quelle en était la cause ? Il était convaincu que les espoirs et les récompenses des fidèles serviteurs de Dieu ne pouvaient se concrétiser que dans l'au-delà ; il maintenait avoir la conviction que l'homme méchant ne recevait pas la rétribution de sa conduite, tout au contraire. Bien que Job ait bénéficié de la miséricorde céleste, des prémices de l'Esprit de grâce, selon les promesses divines, il savait que Dieu finirait d'accomplir l'œuvre qu'Il avait commencée. Le croyant affligé ne doit pas conclure que toute prière et supplication seront vaines et sombrer de ce fait dans le désespoir, sans comprendre la réprimande céleste. Il peut affirmer que le but final de Dieu, lorsqu'Il nous éprouve, est la repentance et l'exercice de la prière sincère.

Puissions nous apprendre à obéir et à faire confiance au Seigneur, même au temps de la tribulation. Vivre ou mourir : cela ne dépend que de Lui. Nous ne pouvons prédire la fin que le Seigneur nous réserve, quelle que soit la durée de vie qu'Il compte nous accorder.
